Copying David Stone's Short Videos

Just saw a video about some guys who copied David Stone's short videos from the Real Secrets of Magic DVD.
Kind of sad really...
I love how discrete it is.

Its sad but true.

There are many people who copy other magicians out there. Ive seen hundreds of 'David copperfields' and 'Lance burtons'

I wish the originals could sue them.

That's completely absurd that they would go to that much trouble to recreate the video. It was frame per frame.

With Lance Burtons and Copperfields, thats just an issue of originality (or maybe they stole entire acts), but that is down right theft, and honestly I'm pretty sure David Stone CAN SUE. Though i think it probably wouldn't be worth the trouble.

But of course,no one would point that out or think to utter it.

Guys,this sh!t has been happening for hundreds of years.
Dont act suprised or taken aback.
How many david blaines do we see out there using the excuse of "oh im just being myself".

Yeah.
But this is... almost like a carbon copy.
Lance is similiar to Channing but he has his own style and what not.
This isn't even a trick. Its just... a video from a DVD.

Guys, this kind of copying has nothing to do with magic. Its like a recording artist who records a song and uses a verse from someone else's song claiming its their own. Or hell, reenacting a scene from borat, but the character is ukrainian.

Looks like the original link was removed from youtube for copyright complaints. I didn't get to see it but I do own RS1 and 2. Was it really that bad? Was it a tutorial or actual footage from the DVDs?

It was those bits and gags in between the DVD that were reenacted the exact same way. Slapping the guy to tell him to shut up, a card falling into the potatoes, etc.

If you have the DVD, it is this thing http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0fSnTVJxgxI.
The copy was the exact same thing. Card flies into mash potatoes and in the guys face. Slaps the guy to tell him to shut up. Everything was almost exactly the same, with the performer as the only difference.

The journey for originality and creativity is the pursuit of every magician.
We all want to be creative and original like that 'other' guy.
And let's be perfectly honest, some people have a knack and personality for being creative and witty, and others of us don't.
How many people use Rocky Raccoon and don't use the standard set of jokes that are included? In reality not many (and they will have to start new jokes soon, because this younger generation doesn't know Brook Shields, Tom Selleck, or Davey Crocket). This of course is just one example, but the challenge hits us all when we "get a new trick" - "how do I make this my own?"

That in itself is a beautiful statement. The big problem stems from those who think they can modify an effect and then SELL it! I don't know about you, but to me magic is about making the other person happy...

People don't like it when they get copied. Just ask all of the people around here that copy other people and cry about someone else getting it. Plus, it is just a video, no magic has been revealed. It isn't a big deal.
