Well, the best I could find is about $14,786 for a poker dealer. This is not in fact a random number. A BlackJack dealer's median salary is $14,377.

Sorry, I could not find any specific location details.

Wow, that low?

I was expecting way higher, but oh well. That helps a ton though, thank you!

I don't think they make too much. It is a very easy job to deal cards if you think about it. Some dealers that loose less for the casino might make more money. I've been to numerous casinos and my luck was like everyone else's besides a few. Once I asked the dealer to slow down (because I couldn't count the cards adding up to 21). Plus, I noticed him using the type of techniques we use. Low and behold, a policeman came over and looked at my ID (running any previous crimes). Since there were none, I had to leave the casino. Another time I was short changed at a casino. I didn't realize that the way the waitress counted the money back was wrong until later.

So good luck if you want to be in that environment all the time.

It depends on where you work here in Vegas. Some casinos are higher end than others so they attract bigger tippers, sometimes. There are a number of casino/hotels here that are owned by certain companies. You can research these companies online, just search Las Vegas casino corporations. Each company has their own pay scale. Plus, you get tips. Now, your tips are either your own to take or you have to split them with other dealers. Except for the Wynn where, I believe, you split tips with your pit boss-don't quote me on that but I'm pretty sure.

A lot of my friends work in the casinos as dealers and some of them have made over 100k a year. The people I know usually range from $25,000-$50,000. Being a dealer at a higher end casino usually helps too.

There are a few local casinos here, Station casinos being one of the biggest. I know a girl that works at Sunset Station and she walks away with 45K a year she also said her biggest year was 68k.

Just thinking about it, the only way to deal at a higher end casino is to have a lot of experience. Generally, at high end casino's the dealers are fair and they make sure you're fair as well.

As for splitting tips, they probably do, since tips end up in a box under the table and the current dealer leaves it there.

Ahh... I was just wondering because I end up being dealer whenever my friends and I play blackjack (and usually poker), so I just wanted to see if there's any way to do a part-time dealer job when I grow older to pay for my own magic supplies.

You don't have to have a lot of experience to deal in Las Vegas. You just need to pass dealer's school and apply. If they like you and you pass the background check, the urine/or hair test, and you pass their training you have a job. Some casinos here will even pay for your dealer's school or reimburse you if you had a previous work employment with them.
They do split tips at most casinos. Some smaller local places that have around 3-5 tables or so don't. The strip casinos split.

Based on what I've contributed think about the odds.

Peace.

You do NOT have do go to a dealer's school if you want to become a dealer. You do however, have to know HOW to deal. My friend (who is now dealing in Vegas) used to deal in Atlantic City at Harrahs. He was part of the hiring team to get the peeps into the casino to deal.
He taught some dude at his house, and in 4 months time he got in, with no dealer's school behind the belt.
My friend in Atlantic City was salaried at right around $14k a year. Not much dinero at all. But you have to figure in tips too. And at the end of the day, you COULD take home $100-500 a night in tips. I know one time he took over a grand home in one night. So your salary jumps up to around $30k a year. In his last year in AC, he made over $55k. So the money is there. It is just like a waiting job, you rely on your tips to make your $$...

Just because you don't make much, doesn't mean it's not full time. $14K/year is minimum wage, full time.

I don't know about the cost of living out there but my guess is that the figures that have mostly been posted in this thread are not very much unless you are a single guy living in an apartment out there somewhere.

That would not be nearly enough to raise a family and pay for all your necessities...I could be wrong though.

Would love to hear from someone who lives out there and is not single what the cost of living is out there.

For example:

In Canton Ohio, with 10 years teaching experience and a master's degree....I make $55,000.00 a year. That doesn't sound like much to some of you I know. But due to the area of Ohio I live in....it isn't too shabby at all.

I have a buddy in Columbus Ohio with 7 years experience that makes the same as me. He brags because he says he is making a lot more.

However...his house payment in Columbus is 1,100 per month. Mine is only $800 per month and my house is almost twice the size.

I think a lot is based upon your cost of living for your area.
