Showmanship makes everything

So guys, I haven't written anything for a while on the forums. But today I just need to share this little story with you.
Yesterday I had a mini performance at the school. Before actually starting the show I had decided to have fun a little bit and to show a "trick" which would be obvious to the spectators just to make everybody laugh. I went to the opened door and asked everybody to watch my hands carefully, I also told smth about the power of the human's mind then said "watch!" again, waved my hands and pushed the door with my leg slightly when doing "PK" motions with my hands. Everybody's attention was on my hands and when they saw the door moving without me actually touching it (as they thought) they were soooo amazed! They were screaming!
I even decided to postpone my show because the spectators were too much amazed buy this so called trick....
And this is what I understood (although it was written numerous times here) at last: Showmanship is extremely important. And you have to spend your time not only working on the sleights but also practicing in front of the mirror, in performances and thinking of the patter...
Hope you like this little funny story (;

What you did was in fact a "trick" or "effect" in that it "affected" your audience in a positive way. You used the principles of psychology, misdirection and the most important one of all -- KEEPING IT SIMPLE -- which is the easiest way to not just fool the laity but magicians as well.

I don't know what kind of hand gestures go with PK but to each his own, I guess.

What you effectively did was create a "moment of magic". For us the moment of magic occurs when the move or set-up or sleight is enacted. However for them it's when we wave our hand, snap our fingers, etc. We rush the real magic moment because we wanna get to the good part... the reaction.

The move is not magic, how you create it is.
