I actually work in reverse. I figure out my routine, then create a piece of music that matches the timing for it.

Tricks don't need more than one effect. Also, it's not hard at all to add "plot" or "meaning" to a color change. I have a script for a 3 minute trick, wherein the only effect that happens is a color change. And it's magical.

If you precede or follow through with another marker effect, there shouldn't be a problem.

It's saying something along the lines of "I'm so obsessed with my hobby that I simply must be doing it every second possible", and "look at me while I try and act all cool and laid back, though I'm really screaming for attention." That's the message that comes across.
