    Second Deal Problems

David and Elio have said it, sleights can be a danger in home games (hence the number one rule recommended in any gambling protection book or video: never play with people you don't know). However, even private games show differences. A person with whom I've conversed (who has first-hand...

    Zarrow Shuffle Dilemma

I'm by no means an expert on the Zarrow, so I'm hoping someone else will weigh in as well, but here's my 2p on the matter: Personally, I like using multiple cover cards, for the reason that the best Zarrows I have seen so far use several cover cards. This suits me well, because I like to do...

    Performing for the Camera

I like the phrase you once used: "People have better BS filters these days." Check out Vanishing Inc.'s ShareMagic:Live download (it's free). Caroline Ravn talked specifically about the issue of building a social media presence as a magician.

    Advanced Level Card Moves

I don't own Principia, so I don't know how Pure Imagination compares to it. That said, a quick rundown of why I like the book: 1. I love the design. I absolutely do judge a book by it's cover (only in the literal, never in the metaphorical sense!), and this book is just beautiful. 2. There are...

    Second Deal Problems

No worries, you were absolutely right. After all, I know magicians who will miss more fair deals than false ones :D

    Second Deal Problems

Yes and no. If you miss the occasional deal, you're absolutely right. But if you catch a hanger at every second or bottom you're dealing, you should probably spend some more time practicing your technique.

Gambling routines & tricks for SoMe

First of all, congratulations! This sounds like an amazing opportunity. If demonstrations of gambling techniques count as tricks, you could do some false shuffles (if the camera is pointing directly down, a Zarrow would probably work well) and spread the deck to show it in new deck order. You...

    Recent GSOH demos

Joey, fantastic work as always. I thought I'd read the chapter, but it seems like I have yet to give it the intense studying it deserves.

    Managing Negativity

I don't think Mohana is talking about haters, but about people you know well who have doubts about your chosen career. People you know to be jerks are so much easier to ignore than friends and family, who may very well be concerned about your well-being. Al e Cat Dabra said it above: And even...

    Second Deal Problems

It definitely does. The good thing about the metronome is that it doesn't stop after 3, 7 or 20 minutes (depending on the genre you like), there are no annoying decrescendos (decrescendi?) and you can set it to whatever tempo you like. That said, if you do feel the urge to smash your head...

    Hello there

If you have a Genii subscription, you can have a look at Jim Steinmeyer's columns; he teaches some excellent parlour magic (@RealityOne can give more information on that). Wow! I tip my imaginary hat to you, sir. How long did you do magic before taking a break? That's great! Sadly, I've never...

    Hello there

Hi Jacob, nice to meet you! It's cool that you found back to magic, what kind of magic exactly do you do? Personally, I've found these forums a really helpful place to find new information, get motivation and inspiration, and of course to get to know fellow magicians. The people you'll meet are...

    Second Deal Problems

This. A nice drill I like to do to practice my seconds is actually a "real-world" (meaning gambling/cheating) application of the move: Stack the aces for four players, but deal for five players, still giving yourself the aces. This requires you to deal as follows (f = fair deal; s = second...

    100% Sankey. Thoughts?

Syd, would you mind elaborating on the type of material in the book? As in, can most tricks be done completely impromptu, what are the objects used and can they be borrowed, etc. I've been thinking about getting Gregory Wilson's "On The Spot", which appeals to me because from what I've heard...
