Should i read royal road to card magic from beginning to end or should i skip around

Thanks for saying this. I really agree with you. And I had gotten this same advice when I had first gotten those books. And I did stick to it for sometime before starting to skip around. After that, I realised that I actually should have just gone sequentially through the book. I don't think...

Is there a Think of Any Card trick in existence?

Lots. Hundreds. Millions of tricks, in fact, exist where a spectator thinks of a card and then the magician reveals the card. The only thing is that, things happen in between (or before the effect even starts) which the spectator isn't supposed to remember, if you do your work correctly...

Should i read royal road to card magic from beginning to end or should i skip around

Skip around. You will find out which approach works for you eventually, but you won't find any approach unless you start.

    Lindholm stage 2

Do it slower and pay a lot of attention to the grips. In that way, you can improve the smoothness, because that's the only obstacle you seem to be hitting now. Otherwise the flourish looks pretty clean! :)

    Non Magic Books for Magic?

And I'd add "Make sure you don't come off as a creep however." :P

    Organic Book Recommendations

I keep suggesting that but anyways, it's good for me that it's underrated. I'm one of the few who have been able to absolutely exploit that book then! :D

    Organic Book Recommendations

Very true. But at least a radically different type of card magic, in my opinion. :) The Complete Idiot's Guide to Street Magic by Tom Ogden. Street Magic by Paul Zenon. I don't have The Complete Idiot's Guide to Magic Tricks by Tom Ogden, but if his other book is anything to go by (and the...

    Non Magic Books for Magic?

Tricks of the Mind by Derren Brown. Not a magic book per se, but it helped me think in a different way about magic. Steal Like An Artist by Austin Kleon. The Harry Potter series by Rowling. The Percy Jackson series and Heroes of Olympus series by Rick Riordan. Three Men in a Boat by Jerome K...

    Simplicity vs Fairness

If you mean in the context of appearing natural, I thought that if the audience already believes it's four cards, just spreading them would be okay. Or am I missing something? Thank goodness, because buckle count seemed like too much work when I could replace it with the good old Elmsley, or...

    Outdated magic

True, once I was using a white board while calling on the ghosts to reveal the design of the card an audience member had chosen (because obviously that sounds like something ghosts usually do), but they didn't come. I repeat, using spirits as assistants, highly unreliable. You're actually...

    EXECUTE - Cardistry Solo Performance

Loved the arm spreads!! :) Great job.

    Outdated magic

I vote a yes, UNLESS, the magician uses it solely for the irony. I think any magic, even the most out-dated kind, can be upgraded if the performer's persona and creativity allows it to. They can be adapted. However, I feel that magicians should use effects with stooges very carefully now. In...

    Simplicity vs Fairness

If I have 5 cards and I want to show four, while hiding the last card, should I really use a false count? Or will just spreading the top four cards be enough? Especially, say if for whatever reason, the audience already psychologically believes it's 4 cards (maybe the effect has them think I...

    Stuck

    1) Get a cardistry book ( https://www.google.com/search?q=cardistry+books&oq=cardistry+books&aqs=chrome..69i57.2335j0j1&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8 ) 2) Treat yourself to merch if possible. 3) Watch non-verbal cardistry tutorials (like the one with Barolo 2). 4) Are you doing all your current...

A flourish-ey way of producing the ten diamond pip cards.

The magic was fabulous! Speaking solely about the cardistry (since you did post it in the cardistry and flourishing forum), it could get smoother. But the above suggestion makes no sense since you probably intended to make the cutting look hesitant. It adds a raw look to your performance, and...

How good should a card magican be after 3 monthes

You got those down in three months? Kudos. I've spent years with my french drop and I'm still not satisfied. PS:- OP, I think the above is a good, comprehensive list of moves you should know, or at least, be aware of by now (give or take a few moves). I was just implying that...

    Which sleights use Retention?

Well, I don't know if Newton's laws are analogies. We're taught them as literal explanations of Classical Physics, even though those principles do hold up insanely well as metaphors. For example, it's easier to continue doing something you are already doing than STARTING something or picking...

    Which sleights use Retention?

Aha, yes, I overlooked the rub a dub vanish. Thanks! I was under the impression however that retention of vision is just a more conjuring-related term for the phenomenon known otherwise as persistence of vision. Newton's laws are applicable only to Classical Physics related with material...
