    Is Cardistry just "Showing Off"?

Aww damnit! But yes, you're right. Different flourishers can express themselves differently through their flourishing, and it's not just by what they do with the cards.

    Awesome, cheers Alex.

    So...

Okay, you win when it comes to the trailer, but anybody that thinks Coldplay is better than Led Zeppelin quite clearly isn't sensible enough to be allowed to use words like 'pwned'. These things are a privilege, not a right!

    So...

Lies! Listen to some In Flames or Lamb of God, or if growls aren't your thing, listen to Led Zeppelin. There ARE NO OTHER BANDS... Also lies! You've clearly never seen THIS: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2H40fChEhWI New guitars are always good! Still, not a Fender fan personally. At...

    Getting a forced card.

Not if you make use of the offbeat. As far as an audience is concerned, one trick is over and another hasn't started yet, therefore, there's no reason for you to do anything suspect. The brief shuffle Rev recommended merely cements the idea that nothing happened.

    Book Test

Haha, fair enough. Who says magic has to be serious anyway? After all, I hear it's the most topical and hilarious book test on the market!

Hey, I'm good thanks, you? Incidentally, I loved the sound of your coin through window, and especially the idea you had for a deck box penetrating the window. That sounds fantastic!

    Book Test

Really? But you hear all sorts of rumours about that book test, and about the author as well. I'm not sure if I could take him, or anything he releases for that matter, at all seriously.

    Book Test

I'd recommend (as Prae mentioned) the Billion Monkeys Book Test, from Josh Quinn's book ParaLies. Completely fantastic routine, and you will use the principle in other tricks as well.

    Is Cardistry just "Showing Off"?

I think one of the main problems with cardistry as a performance art is that it's difficult to express meaning. For example, your performance would struggle to be a narrative, due to a lack of character, for a start.. It is obviously hard to give the cards a character, due to a lack of...

I'm adding yet another vote towards this method.

    Getting a forced card.

My recommendations would either be spreading through the cards on the offbeat from the last trick and simply cutting it to the bottom (you will not get called out on this if you do it casually) or, if you're going to need to do this a lot with the same card, just make a short card. Either would...

    Bad habits when you perform...?

Ugh, if I have someone name a random card and need to find it or retrieve it subtly, my 'stalling for time' line involves looking at them and saying "So any particular reason why you named that card? Is it just random or..." whilst desperately fumbling with my hands. It usually works, but makes...

Pity Magic Isn't as Easy as Music

Composing music, like magic, isn't that simple. Anyone can write 'a song' in half an hour, or come up with 'a magic trick' by just slinging a few sleights together. But supposing you don't want to come up with a song (note: any reference to music here can also refer to magic) for the sake of...

Pity Magic Isn't as Easy as Music

You've been on Cracked, haven't you? :p Really though, this is a great example. Led Zeppelin supposedly stole the riff for Stairway to Heaven from a band called Spirit. So why is it that Led Zeppelin is famous, and Spirit (correct me if I'm wrong here, but I've never heard of them) isn't? I'd...

Selling magic to pay for school.

Ah, that's true, I hadn't taken that into account. Still, you can always make sure your friends know you're generally happy to perform at events and whathaveyou, and you may get the occasional gig, which probably wouldn't be too much of a time commitment. Every little helps.

There is, of course, the obvious option of doing gigs.
