How To Promote Yourself- Essay #12 from Jamie D. Grant

Hey Jamie, Quick question. After performing for family and friends, and blowing the minds of strangers, how does one know if they have enough MATERIAL to start doing gigs. Should they keep the same routine they've been doing for their family and friends and try to market that? I'm sure that...

About to start Bar Magic... advice?

Hey there! The TnR that I use is from Wayne Houchin, he released 100 copies of this on DVD and he shows it in his live lectures, so if you get a chance you should go see him. As for the Card Under Glass and *Signed* Bill to Lemon, they are both on Doc Eason's DVD's "Bar Magic". Card Under...

About to start Bar Magic... advice?

I did! I'm still making my way up the ranks, doing a lot of free stuff but getting myself out there. The bars around here are big party spots so it's hard to get behind a bar that's being slammed for drinks. But, I'm a server right now and I'm encouraged to do magic for my tables so it's kind of...

    T-11 Card design

They do look great. Time to open up the 'ole copyright rules though. I wouldn't even think about giving any away without permission from T11 :P

About to start Bar Magic... advice?

Hey all! I loved this thread so much I decided to bump it up. I wrote this a year ago, and have learned SO much in that year. So through the past year, how many of you got into bar magic, and or walk around? What effects do you use, and how do YOU build rapport? There are so many amazing...

Important Question (Videos In Media Section)

Take the word 'Casino' out of your patter in the triumph :) You will get called out fast if you ever perform this for someone who actually plays cards. Casino's never 'Cut to the aces', and have strict shuffling standards. Also, don't say 'Right?' so much. You don't have to over-prove...

    Quick Question? :)

No one has said that Royal Road was too advanced. On the contrary, it is one of the best beginner books out there. The point being made was "Expert at the Card Table" was too advanced for the beginner. Mark Wilson's Course in Magic and Royal Road to Card Magic should be on everyone's shelf.

    Quick Question? :)

I wouldn't start with any of those books. Jason England has said "Think of 'The Royal Road to Card Magic'' as High School, the 'Card College' as College courses, and 'Expert at the Card Table' as Graduate School. 'The Complete Walton' is out of print, and hard to find. I still haven't found a...

    Quick Question? :)

'The Royal Road to Card Magic' is like $6 if you get the Dover edition. Also 'Expert Card Technique' is around $15-20. That right there is more than enough material for a while :P 'Bobo's Modern Coin Magic' can be found relatively cheap, also 'Mark Wilson's Course in Magic' is very cheap and...

Started working at a school. Input/advice?

None of the stuff I mentioned has to have gimmicks! (minus the flash paper, and fire wallet) One long piece of rope can serve you well. You don't have any sponge balls? If not I'd recommend getting some, they play well for everyone.. and loose change or a 50 cent piece? If you have different...

    Simply Sharkey by Sharkey Chong

Why would I get this? Passes, Hops, False Deals, False Shuffles and Stacking? Jason England already has it on lock for me, and I got it a year ago :P The only 'new' thing here is the 'Dragon Stack'. And I doubt that it alone is worth $60. Anyone that would be interested in 'Underground...

Started working at a school. Input/advice?

Be Visual. Don't expect them to pay attention to long effects. Rope tricks, Sponge Balls, Fire Wallets, Flash Paper, Animals, Being Funny, Coin Tricks, Silk Magic. Notice I didn't say anything about playing cards :P Just have fun with them. Even a torn and restored napkin will entertain them.

    Magic in High School (Video)

You like the pass a lot I see, haha. Although none of your spectators saw it, I don't think I would have seen it much if you used a cover for it (ie. riffle, dribble, jiggle). I really liked all the reactions, BUT I did feel when you did the two card transposition you could have slowed down a...

    cap in bottle

Hahaha, Now that would be real magic, wouldn't it? I particularly like DB's version, where he pours out a persons beer, penetrates the cap, then has the bottom pop off. Good stuff.
