Original or Not Original (or semi-original)?

This is the single hardest thing about releasing magic. However, before I go on, I'd like to go ahead and thank you for considering whether it's original. If everyone thought about that before releasing material, we'd have a lot more innovative effects on the market. The best thing to do is run...

    Nike ID Idea

One of my friends did that a long time ago on the sides of his shoes... Only issue was it said "Jack Of" and "Spades" on the other... People would often ask "Why does your shoe say 'jack of-----' ooooooooooooooooooh!" Haha.

    Needs help urgently.

I'm in agreement with the above. There are a great many visual tricks that transcend language barriers. In situations where I didn't speak the language of those who I am performing for, I've done Jay Sankey's Holy Moly, my effect Mute (on Trcky.com), Sponge Balls, Andrew Mayne's Inversion... And...

    Creators and Performers.

It's interesting that you say that, because I still really like Jay's newer stuff; I don't know that I've ever been disappointed by any of it. Also, he still performs on a pretty regular basis.

Best place to buy the 'Expert At The Card Table' ?

For a physical copy? Penguin Magic or Dan and Dave. Though Amazon.com has a kindle version (that looks really good) for under $3.00.

    INSANE by Andy Nyman

I was insanely impressed by it. I haven't bought it yet (though I'm 100% certain I am going to) but it looks wonderful. I definitely see what you're saying about wanting it to have a second phase, but I'm in agreement with DICER. The way that Andy builds it up, I think a second phase would...

    Creators and Performers.

I was browsing around and came across a wonderful article by David Rowyn about the perception of creators and performers. http://www.trcky.com/notebook/2012/06/25/the-songwriters-of-magic Personally, I agree completely with what David says. The perception of performers looking down upon...

SIX New Releases + Free White Monarchs - Friday!

I am beginning to smell some CK action coming on Friday... I remember hearing about the original release a few years ago and being sad that I couldn't buy them at the time. Thought about them a few days ago and I think I might invest in the set. Looking forward to Friday!

    How You Name Your Effect's

Ooh, this is an awesome topic. While the names aren't essential for the tricks, I do thoroughly enjoy seeing thought being put into different names. For example, there was a wonderful serial number prediction by Jay Sankey a few years ago called Onion. I went months wondering why he called it...

    Torn and Amazed

I like the "Bogus TnR" off of Troy Hooser's Total Destruction DVD set. It's pretty basic, but has a great presentation, is very justified and visual. It's not exactly the "Piece by Piece" style of today, but it's a fantastic routine.

"75% of performances are poor...." -- Fitzkee

I hate to always seem like devil's advocate, but I am in almost 100% complete disagreement with that "statistic". Magic is different for everyone, and good showmanship and magic for one audience might be absolutely horrible for another. There is bad magic out there, for sure (I work in a magic...

Magic Books that are now on DVD

A great set based on books is Harry Lorayne's 4 DVD set. It isn't completely based on his literature (it would be longer than 12 hours if it were) but it has his greatest hits, of which there are a TON. The material isn't all presented well, and it isn't all something you or your friend will...

Books or dvd's for thumb tip magic

I have several booklets and DVDs, and without a doubt, my favorites are the Gary Darwin DVDs (mentioned above). 3 DVDs and somewhere around 60-70 effects (a lot performed live on the DVD set). It's a fantastic set that is an endless source of inspiration.

The Gimmicks Lab by Jay Sankey

Woah! I had a lot of questions about this one (and not very high hopes), but now I'm really considering it. Thank you for the excellent review, as always.

    Magic in Spanish

No se donde puedes encontrar un foro, pero libros en espanol son muy ayudable. Telekinefesch es un bueno ejemplo; tiene un parte en ingles, y el mismo parte en espanol tambien... y muchos rutinas buenas tambien. :P

How do you get a job at theory11?

In response to Casey's last message, I would like to say that I agree wholeheartedly. I have worked in the past (and still do occasionally) for Penguin Magic, and the two biggest part of working for any company (online or otherwise) are professionalism and being helpful. Casey is a premiere...

    Xtension by Alexander Kolle

Hey there! I hate to make you wait 5 days for a response like this, but I'm really indifferent about it. I bought it, thought it was clever but never used it. That being said, having it is nice; it's a fairly practical effect that's so versatile that it's hard for me to imagine not using it at...

Penguin Magic's Attempt at The Wire

Wow, you have successfully confused me. My apologies if you missed the post where I did back up what I said. I gave the same viewpoint in a less professional tone under a different account, which is the whole reason Lyle called me out on it. The tone you are currently using is considerably...

Penguin Magic's Attempt at The Wire

Lyle, I appreciate your response and the manner in which it was delivered. However, I would like to point out that I thought dual identities were supposed to be secret. I don't see anyone running around yelling that Clark Kent is... (see what I did there?) In all seriousness though, I created...
