    Double Lift

I second the Jamy Ian Swiss book, in terms of choosing which double to use. Also, for another few paragraphs on what constitutes "naturalness", there is an excellent section in Darwin Ortiz's "Strong Magic".

    What is Magic Today?

Amateurs have existed in every field, artistic or not, since the beginning of time. It's not as big of a problem as you think. Your main problem is that you're at school. It's only a problem if you're performing for the same audiences as him. 95% of the people I perform for have never seen a...

    Top palm with reversed orientation?

I've been playing with this for the last few days, but the sound is *****ing. However, I did find a much more pleasant move that resembles this in "If an Octopus could Palm". Thanks, I'll look into that. I don't have Buckley's book yet, but I'm definitely planning to. What version of ECT...

    Top palm with reversed orientation?

So I'm looking for a way to palm a card off the top of the deck, but I want to have it ending face down in my palm. The solutions I've come up with are palming off, then palm transferring, but if possible I'd like to not have take that extra second or so. I've also tried a dps from the top...

    The Most Natural Card Force?

The cull force for in the hands. It mimics an in the hands spread which is one of my favored ways of having a card selected.

Late night question of the night.

I'd call that the climax of the routine.

Late night question of the night.

Oh wow, I totally forgot about the first part without rubber banding the deck. I usually just go straight into the rubber band and wallet phase. I guess if the whole thing routine is considered, it'd be a repetition with different conditions and a kicker ending, which in this case constitutes...

Late night question of the night.

I consider Armstrong's opening act two different effects. Going off what R1 said, you can do the routine without the wallet ending, and it still plays well. You could do a named card to wallet without preceding it with anything, and it would still play well. He's just woven them together...

    Card Stacks

    Mnemonica is fairly cool.

What's sitting at the bottom of your magic drawer?

I don't think it's impractical at all. I quite like it.

What's sitting at the bottom of your magic drawer?

2 Sealed Arrcos that I will probably never open. 1 deck of Arrcos signed by Jon Armstrong, 1 deck of Arrcos signed by Kostya Kimlat.

    Classic Faro Rage

Took a few hours for my eyes to get back to normal. In other news, Denis Behr is freaking amazing.

    Classic Faro Rage

that feel when you get your shipment of Handcrafted Card Magic 1&2 that you've been eagerly awaiting for weeks, but can't read them because your eyes are blurry from the solution that the optometrist put in to dilate your pupils. feelsbadman.

    Pressure fans.... My poor cards.

Practicing it does ruin cards. I went through about 3 decks learning the move.

shyness, alcohol, card magic and a beginner

Don't get used to performing drunk. If it becomes habitual, then it becomes destructive. Fitzkee talks about this in Showmanship for Magicians, which I'll post here when I get home and can look up the exact quote. But eventually the gist of it is: if it becomes to habitual, you'll find that...

    Help! Doing Magic for kids!

The only card trick that I've found that plays well for kids close up is David Williamson's "3 card trick".

Quick question regarding exposure and improv

I stuffed up my wording, I meant to say "Don't give them the response that they expect".

Quick question regarding exposure and improv

This. One of the things I have to do a lot for the audiences I perform for is to just look them straight in the eye, and say, "I don't care." They will come and tell you how you did the trick expecting a response from you. Don't give them one. Act as if you don't care.

    Any Magician's in my area?

I'm based in Brisbane, and manage a magic stall in the weekendly southbank markets (mainly beginner stuff, svengali decks, d'llites, etc.). [This weekend is an exception when I'll be in Sydney for Michael Ammar]. There's a few guys around here, I know of at least one group, but I'm not a part...
