What magic items do you carry

Rubber bands on my wrist are the only magic related items I carry. I use these-> http://www.amazon.com/Alliance-Antimicrobial-Rubber-Inches-42649/dp/B0017TI7O4 They don't dry out and last forever, not to mention they're a vibrant color. I recommend them if you don't have them already.

    any good magic books

Well, it's not that new, but the apocalypse volumes have a ton of material. Not to mention it ranges from cards to coins to ice cubes so you're bound to find something to spark your interest. Hope this helps!

    Spectators with mixed feelings?

I had an interesting thing happen to me when performing at a local restaurant recently. I approached a table with an elderly couple who was watching me from a few tables down perform for a small family. I introduced myself, they seemed very friendly, but when asked if they'd like to see some...

    Table Hopping?

I don't think age is really an issue, I started at 14. As long as you're mature, respectful, and great at magic, age doesn't matter.

    Having trouble.

I second everything that William said. You could also try to learn some rubber band magic. It packs small, is an instant reset, and gets some great reactions. Do you know how to vanish and reproduce coins? Because if you do you can put together a simple coin flurry with a jumbo coin production...

Do you just do card tricks?

I think we may be on different pages here. I agree that Color Monte looks like a trick, and I agree it is a very good trick. But it's a trick where spectators don't really know what to expect because you're not using a full deck and you're using cards they've never seen before. In contrast, if...

Do you just do card tricks?

I completely agree with what your saying. But I'm not denying the fact that color monte looks like a "trick". I mean the moment you pull out only 3 cards and show that the fronts aren't that of a poker deck, throws out the possibility of you doing, in their mind, a stereotypical "card trick"...

Do you just do card tricks?

Could you explain what you mean by inorganic? Maybe inorganic wasn't the perfect word for what I was trying to say. I feel spectators already have a preconception of card tricks. So pulling out a deck of cards gives them an idea of where a trick is heading, ruining that moment where they don't...

Do you just do card tricks?

I've never gotten that question because I perform in a restaurant/table hopping setting and the only card trick I do is Color Monte. To me, pulling out a deck of cards in that environment seems inorganic and doesn't fit my style or the flow of my routines.

    Real workers?

With what I've got on me a good coin flurry goes a long way. So does uncanny penetration followed by touch if I have rubber bands. With a deck of cards my go to is "secrets" by Dai Vernon or a good force and reveal. But my all time favorite is recap by Greg Wilson. It is so much fun to perform...

    What's a good bill switch?

Down and Out My favorite for walk around and table hopping performances is Jay Marshall's Down and Out Bill Switch. There are no gimmicks, has a really visual change, and is instant reset. You can find it in Apocalypse Volume 9. Hope this helps!

Angle issues with a move in DG's ".44"

If you are right handed make sure the spectator is standing to your right or looking straight down at your hands. The angels for this are pretty flexible. Just experiment. Hope this helps!

    Card Tricks for Restaurants

From my experience don't do more than one card trick a set, if that. Spectators get easily bored with many card effects and you will find it difficult to transition into them. If you do find yourself doing cards tricks make them short and sweet. Go with coins, rubber bands, sponge balls, things...

    Failure

Thanks for posting, this is a great topic! Everyone has pretty much said it all and I agree with most of it but what topic this also brings up is how important true entertainment and showmanship is to your performances, the trick should not make or break this. If you flash a gimmick but the...

    Lift Off and Twistration

I was thinking about getting this but to me it looks exactly like Uncanny Penetration in Apocalypse. I'm not looking for anyone to reveal it but is it possible for someone to tell me if the method is that much different from UP that it would be practical to buy. Thanks!

Best Type of Rubber Band for Rubber Band Magic

Size #19 are the bands of choice for most effects. But for certain tricks you might have to experiment. I also recommend these http://www.officedepot.com/a/products/420515/Alliance-Rubber-Latex-Free-Antimicrobial-Rubber/ They are vibrant and stretch a ton. Try to find these at a local office...
