    New name for all this!

This thread isn't the best place to discuss this subject (since it largely started as a joke). I'm looking to better address this issue on a larger scale in the near future. I will say, however, that there is an immense amount of confusion and misinformation crawling around today. And I think...

UPDATE -- Trilogy : The NEW theory11 Video Contest

How long is your video? Also realize the maximum display size of a video on theory11 is 480x360. If it's only 1 minute long, it should fall under 25MB pretty easily...

    More appropriate titles, please.

Thread titles that suck: "I have a question" "Check this out!" "COOL BEANS" "Bad news bears...." Titles that rock: "Does JB sleep?" "Check Jessica Alba out!" "I want Richard to father my children" "I broke my arm doing a backflip on a 2'x2' trampoline..." My point is, the title of your...

    Decknique

I think you may have started a Buddy List. People who are on your buddy list will have a + symbol beside their name to help make them stand out to you.

UPDATE -- Trilogy : The NEW theory11 Video Contest

To help it stand out you could add some mention of the contest in either the title or the description. I'll see about the possibility of adding a new field in the video submission page so you can pick which category your video falls under, and I'll add "theory11 cardistry contest" or something...

    What should I get...

I think the Encyclopedia of Playing Card Flourishes and Xtreme Beginnerz are two of the best starting resources. I actually couldn't tell you which one is best for somebody starting out... I started with the encyclopedia, which does have many more moves than XB if I recall correctly, but XB...

UPDATE -- Trilogy : The NEW theory11 Video Contest

Your video can contain magic, but should focus on cardistry, not magic. If you don't know enough flourishes, try learning some more. :)

UPDATE -- Trilogy : The NEW theory11 Video Contest

Most displays, like D&D's Werm, would be considered cardistry, yes. Let me try to clarify: If it's not magic, it's probably cardistry. If you think it's a flourish, it probably fits under cardistry. Think of it this way... if it aims to show something "out of this world" happened where the...

UPDATE -- Trilogy : The NEW theory11 Video Contest

Yeah I understand the bit of confusion. But this is posted in the CARDISTRY/FLOURISHING forum. It is primarily a cardistry contest, not a magic contest.

You know what would be awesome?

For the record, you spelled my name right, but I actually don't really peruse the submission queue much. I do the programming for it, features, etc. Not all videos get accepted, of course. A large bulk of the videos are cardistry since they many were ported from Decknique but, also, cardistry...

UPDATE -- Trilogy : The NEW theory11 Video Contest

A lot of confusion regarding terminology, no? Whatever you consider XCM is probably what we're looking for in the contest. Focus on non-magical though highly skillful manipulating of playing cards. That's what cardistry means.

Media submissions: Now accepting WMV files!

I finally just got the bug fixed where WMV files were not being handled properly. So if you got Windows Media videos, bring them on. We still also accept QuickTime (MOV), MPEG-4 (mp4) and YouTube videos too.

I wish I could just talk to some of you in person about this. So much talk seems lost on the Internet.

    Taglines a changing

I really don't think so. You might be getting confused with the part that comes afterwards on the front page: "Learn High End Magic Tricks & Card Flourishing"

    Taglines a changing

    "Underground Magic Epicenter"

    Taglines a changing

Wee... looks like some tagline changes are finally starting to roll out :)

Bah... this isn't "you know you're a magician when..."

Cards do NOT fan like "butter"

Think about it. "Fan like butter" implies that butter can fan. One could argue that if you heat up butter enough you could spread it on some toast or something. But when you spread butter you usually have to give it multiple swipes with your knife to give it the spread you really want. So even...

Cards do NOT fan like "butter"

I posted this about 2 years ago on Decknique, but I think it deserves to be repeated on theory11 to this larger crowd of people who still use this simile. I don't want to see ONE more person talk about butter! "Fans like butter." Really, does this make any sense? How does something fan like...
