    Wraptured by Sankey IDEA HELP

If your spec expects it to be warm when you hand it to them....warm it up! Put the gimmick in a pocket close to your body before you bring it into play(ie. Pants pocket as opposed to a jacket pocket) Another effect that might help sell the fact that you are heating it up would be Guru...

    Cheating Techniques

I would pretty much second everything TheNinjew said. The B.F.U. shuffle work section has some of the best stacking problems I have ever seen. Really fun and addictive stuff! I would also mention Richard Turner DVDs. One that is a must is his DVD on Hops and Shifts. Probably the best all around...

    Wraptured by Sankey IDEA HELP

Interesting idea. I like the concept. Sadly I don't have any specific ideas other than to say you might use a smoke gimmick of some kind. Then smoke would come from your hands during the heating up process.

    Magic performed with beer?

That is easy....as soon as you "Beak the seal" it will be reappearing all night!

    Magic performed with beer?

Yeah that Wayne Houchin trick he does is an old physics thing. Hunt around for it and I am sure you can find it. Little messy though. Check out Alex Loredo's CAPtivated. Good effect, nice method.

    Fair enough! Thanks!

    Fistful

I love your use of the one handed top palm for a change. I have a friend who uses that as well and it looks a lot better than the clip shift IMO. Overall the cardistry was pretty good. Sadly I have to agree with the comment on the music selection. Key and Peele ruined the Dubstep for me...

Is Magic an Art? Thread #459

Like Chad Long said in that video, "I can't describe it but I know it when I see it." I think a lot of magicians "try too hard" to be artists. As soon as you do that I think you lose whatever it is that ART is. Jamie has a great way of putting it but if I would offer advice to a newbie I would...

    I hate "normal" things

Great thread. And great observation. It made me think of the the old Andy Nyman tapes. I love how he would pass out gaffed and stacked decks to the audience just assuming that the more nonchalant you handle the deck the less likely they are to bother to actually inspect it! Beyond the "Just a...

    Counterfeit Sentinels? (Large Photo)

The older runs are the ones I have so unless the newer runs are soft and floppy then I suspect they are fake. I had heard that USPCC was cracking down on advertising the various finishes like the 909. T-11 still uses that finish but it might not appear on the box. To qualify that....that was...

    Counterfeit Sentinels? (Large Photo)

You should be able to tell by feel. Sentinels are given a Q1 and run off the web press. Plus the T-11 finish is proprietary. With all that the Sentinels are one of the best made cards USPCC produces. They also have rather smooth edge work. So if your other cards "feel" like the quality of a Bike...

    Working in a haunted house?

I LOVE Halloween shows. I used to do a parlor gig for all the classes at a school I worked at. That said...The type of magic that is great for Halloween often requires set up. Therefore a short parlor set, as Chris T mentioned, is great if you can score a gig like that. If you do get a walk...

A deck By the people, For the people.

I'm there with you Bra! Down with the fascist card establishment! Power to the people! I say tie die and flowers! We need a card that a granola eatin', muffin hugger wearing Jerusalem cruisers can be proud of!

    out of focus cardistry

Okay I don't like the music because I don't like 50s music. I do give you props for using different score than most though. The out of focus thing....could work a little better if there was something in focus either in the for or background. The thing is....out of focus only works in an artistic...

Card "magic" tricks vs sleight of hand

I believe Toby and I, and a few others, did give you types of effects that make card magic seem more magical. We just also backed up our thoughts with a few examples. So to reiterate, moveless card magic. When you do moves, like shuffling or cutting, you start to introduce the idea of skill...

Can't Blacken cards with a lighter

Tape your mold in place. Take your time. Do it gradually. Burn a little bit, let the card cool down, burn a little more, and so on until you get the desired look. I use a zippo all the time to burn cards so if you are careful it shouldn't make a difference. Also....a card will always warp a...

Card "magic" tricks vs sleight of hand

I think I get what you are talking about. Some people here seem to want to stick with the old line "It's all Performance," which I generally agree with. That said, if you are asking what I think you are asking, I agree that regardless of performance and presentation different effects have the...

    Best Overall Deck?

I certainly understand the frustration of many who have seen this thread pop up time and time again. But the truth is, there are others, like me, who are happy to do our best to help a new guy out. As long as there are those happy to answer these questions....what's the big deal? My real...

    Best Overall Deck?

Do you prefer a soft deck? - anything on Bee Aristocrat stock that was printed on the casino press prior to 2009 or the Web press post 2009. Aristocrat stock run off the standard press are actually disappointing. (Hint- T-11 and D&D cards that use Aristocrat are always on the web press so you...

    Presentation vs. the actual effect

Both Toby and Randy have sort of summed up my point. It is great to watch as an aesthetic appreciation of the skill required to master such technique. But I too question if that kid would perform it in front of a live audience and be able to present it in such a way as to be really...
