    Gaff cards... what's your opinion?

Hey TheatreHead - I actually forgot that I wrote: In the end...Gimmicks should be as hidden as your pass. That was my actual point - that proper use - for the most part - (because some effects alllow you to have the double backer selected, blank faces, etc - bring the gimmick into play -...

    Nyuck...Nyuck...YUCK!

My point - even GREAT performers can use poor technique - and I don't think Daryl or Bill Malone would choose to use stooges in this manner. I thought that video highlighed all the issues with stooges: Bad acting. Poor reactions due to the "too perfect theory" - anyhow. I don't see what...

    Nyuck...Nyuck...YUCK!

Hmm, yeah, when you have to tell your audience when it is "time to freak out", perhaps not as invisible a technique as you may think. Moreover, I am not sure what level of success overall has to do with using poor technique. Angel is pretty successful too...yet still takes heat from LAY...

    Gaff cards... what's your opinion?

Umm, I don't agree with that fully - misdirection does make it hidden, so your statement doesn't make full sense. However, good technique still needs to be provided, misdirection just helps render it more "invisible".

    Gaff cards... what's your opinion?

After talking with a good friend of mine, and award winning magician, about an idea I had on gimmicks; he decided to write this. He sent it to me to put up on the forum, but it was at a time I left the group. As of recent, had this published in a Canadian Magic Magazine. I have been waiting...

A Little Bit of Live Magic

"What you could have done here..." IS: Coin to wallet – NOT moved your hand so quickly to your pocket – anything that happens from the time they see the coin, to the time it vanishes is considered the “critical interval” or in laymen’s terms – the part where they think you did something –...

    Some thoughts?

Well put Scarecrow. I guess the question people ask next is - If I know my venue is real world, and not videos, than I want to prepare with the sleights that offer me the most flexibility, are angle efficient, and look natural, then I don't want to learn every sleight, as I would rather...

    Which way would you prefer?

I would rather mess up the trick, and use an out when possible, then reveal the method. I have messed up tricks, but not revealed the method. Ended with a strong out, and then showed the trick I wanted on the very next trick. No loss. If you expose the method, you can't do that. As for...

    Dribbling cards while performing...

Don't post until you watch this video: http://www.doublefacers.com/2008/11/lesson-1-visual-noise/ It saved me a rant - in short - try not to dribble cards. I will word it to you in a way that relates: Dribbling and "fiddling" with cards is equal to when someone is giving a speech, and...

    Some thoughts?

I don't necessarily disagree with you here, as I do think the difficulty of sleights shouldn't be a consideration of why you do or don't do something. However, I do want to state that the GOAT change does have issues, and looking at a sleight critically is important. It doesn't matter how...

    Giving IT Away

There is also a difference in people that find the resources, and people that LEARN the resources. You can own 1000 videos and 1000 books, and still suck. If this is true - why should we spoon feed? There is a big difference in being stuck on something and needing help, and just...

    Giving IT Away

We are all responsible for each other - if we care about magic - we care about how it is approached. Sure, we can't stop exposure, but we can create a culture. This culture can exist in this forum. It demands respect from members, not only in how they treat each other, but how they share...

    Giving IT Away

Which brings me to my second reason for bringing this up – I am taking a marketing program from a guy that speaks to the top 1% of all people that work in Financial Planning. The course isn’t cheap, and it is promised to triple your business or your money back. He said something about his...

    Giving IT Away

Recently, I mentioned an effect out of the Harris books in an A of A thread. I had someone PM me and ask me what the effect was. I replied, “I will give you 3 guesses” and he replied back, “It would be more useful if you just told me”...that quessing 3 out of 70-80 effects was "hardly odds...

Tons of performing, Michael Trautman, and a punk magician.

For the sleight part - if you know how clipshift is done, and can tell it is being done by movement...hmm, this is a hard one, because I would ask - is the movement natural enough to fool - or is the movement enough to forecast the moment. I hate clipshift, it is like the ego change...it only...

Glad you feel this way - and like I said - you are not the only one to take this path, as it may be instinctual, as a defense mechanism. We often look to others to find fault, as few will look at themselves to see fault first. However, more often than not, this is a great opportunity for you -...

    Being Fooled By A Beginner

I love magic - I don't like saying getting fooled, because I don't like getting fooled. Like one time in University, I set up one of those snappers (cap from a cap gun and a metal spring) under some Maxim Magazines - and went upstairs to my appartment. A hour later, my friends and I swore we...

Please don't take this personally - as it is NOT a personal attack - but am about to use you as an example - and I apolagize now for it. BUT - I do this because THIS IS A COMMON BELIEF ON HOW TO MANAGE YOUR AUDIENCE AND IT IS WRONG! NOW LET ME EXPLAIN WHY: Ever have an audience member say -...

I am going to reply to this before I watch your performance, as it may taint or skew my words. You never know with magicians. Anyhow - my first paragraph - let me reword - that effect you mentioned was a killer...it is obvious you are confident and excited about that one, moreso than the...

    Public Libraries?

Haha, yeah dudes, as for saying "KEEP THE BOOK" that is a joke! I won't lie, I have "borrowed" without intent to return and without the knowledge of the Librarian when I was young and starting magic...and I have heard that story from many greats. Stating, the book was so good I felt...
