Back to the Ruby Room

Hey guys, for those of you who saw my last video outside the ruby room, I have another scheduled gig at the same location on February 20th!

For those who didn't see my video. Shame on you.

Anyway I was wondering if anyone had an idea for any effect they want to see, or any help they can give me for ideas of effects. I do mainly cards, and I really want to up the skill that it takes to perform the effects, harder sleights and things like that. So any suggestions would be very appreciated, I have a good idea of what I'm going to do, but I thought it would be nice to open up to the forum and see what you guys think!

I try to stay away from gimmicked decks (I try to be a purist) and the effect may have to be pretty angle proof, because unlike in the video I posted, I was out there for an hour and most of the time pretty surrounded.

Beanssss, do some of your great grandfather type of stuff, would be very interesting to see who came up to see what the hell you were doing.

If that doesn't work then maybe a three card monte or three shell game thing, would be nice to see some gambling routines on T11.

in your opinion what's the best version of the 3 card monte? there are so many versions of it.

What kind of stuff from W.C.? I can juggle, and not NEARLY as well as he can.

Well just the scam version, where you show the bottom card while gripping two and actually throwing the top card. It's fairly easy and takes no time to really learn.

Juggle with chainsaws, or better yet flaming chainsaws, or even better flaming chainsaws that have oily handles, or even better, juggling all of that with your mindddddd.

Really though, juggle some random stuff if you can. Just get people to give you random stuff and juggle with it. I'm sure that outta be a good challenge :D

Best of Luck

I juggle bunnies who juggle oily flaming chainsaws with coated in antrhax

But that seems to push people away, not draw them in.

I know which one you're talking about, I know that method, but there isn't much of a climax.

True, but it's always fun to fool people :D The best way to fool people is to get them twice then reveal the method, then don't even do the sleight and it get's people every time.

There is one the 3 card monte 2000 I believe it's called, and it's pretty cool but you would probably have to pay for something like that for the gimmick.

I don't mind buying anything, I would actually rather it be books though. I plan on performing a couple effects off of TA, stapled warp being what I'm currently working on. Maybe Daniel garcia's .44, i think it's called off of his symphony DVD

Well, anything in terms of a gambling thing would be nice for me. I am always up for watching some real gambling skill at work.

This entire thread is just you and I talking. And Shane being very nice.

What the heck people. Any suggestions or recommendations at all? I know there are at least a handful of people on here that actually perform, although I know most don't.

I kind of want to see if I can get away with a packet trick

I'll now post, in order to break the norm of the thread.

The first video was very nice, the only thing I would suggest you attempt (and this is for every performer, including myself) is to reduce the 'ums' when you talk. It's simple, every time (everyday) you feel yourself saying 'um' 'like' 'y'know' or anything similar, just pause. It'll put more weight on what you're saying.

As far as tricks go. Maybe a matchbook (or box) trick which are good for that small environment, a packet trick (like you mentioned) would be nice, maybe a different colored deck 'do as I do' effect (blind by Daniel Madison, Election by Eric Ross, or any other version(most beginner books have a version).

Maybe you could pull a Max Malini, and put a solid block of ice under a borrowed hat. (or your own). Good luck with that one.

I got fantastic advice from a magic castle performer when I was there a over Thanksgiving break; he said to get something like dragon speak, or a text to speech thing, and do the trick, and just talk.

Then go to your text to speech thing, and throw out everything that is completely useless information. Don't talk about your actions, and weed out meaningless phrases.

needless to say I've been working hours on my patter.

Great video. Thanks for sharing that.
In terms of something new to add, I would look at trying effects using a variety of items. Perhaps something with coins (simple matrix routine would work well with your setup), string, rope, sponge balls etc. even, dare I say, a couple of cups for a (unique) cups and balls routine. You could also try a simple mentalism effect perhaps (use your business card for the prediction to give it out)? In terms of cards, gimmicked: twisted sisters is awesome.
Try to do more effects in their hands. Get out from behind the table and interact more in their space. (Biddle trick can be good for this)

Great stuff. Make sure to vid the next one too!

I'll for sure vid the next one. I plan on using switch craft, and maybe even buying Shane Black's book to use some of his new stuff.

I'm trying to use instant reset tricks or a purist type of attitude because I have NO time to reset, people are always around and I'm always performing, for around two hours.

I have a hard time coming up with tricks some poeple haven't seen, they've been standing around so long.
