past midnight is amazing, basically he teaches all sleights needed, but just to be safe, you should know basic things.

In the not to distant future
past midnight is a great dvd. he goes over the basic top palm and bottom palm breifly, but you should be comfortable with them before getting the dvd. most of the sleights are easy. but it depends what skill level you are. you never mentioned that.

I think more than basic card knowledge should be known. I would not consider the pass or the cull basic knowledge. They are both used and not taught. However, you will learn one handed bottom palms, bottom deals, various one handed passes, a color change and some unbelievably clever mentalism effects. The DVD is brilliant, by the way.

i like the psychological part of past midnight. there's a few 'hands on' sleights and routines there too.

not really fond of some of the material though, i dont really do table magic =]

How good are the explanations on the dvds? I read a review somewhere that said that he rushed the explanations.

I own all three DVD's, and yeah, he rushed the explanations, and he is not a good teacher also... So you might have a little problem with the teaching, but as someone said before, it depends on your skill level...
Past midnight is not for beginners, it is for intermediate/advanced level...

I think of it as Dan and Dave Trilogy... It is very hard at first, but after some time, it becomes very very easy, and like second nature to you...

All in all, it is a great buy, and if it is difficult for you when you get it, just pop it open after 6 months or so, and you will be satisfied...

Good luck with it...

So how bad is the teaching?

It is slightly better than Brian Tudors teaching (which is not a good thing :)).
It is more of a visual teaching followed with "i do this, and i tell the audience that i'm going deeper and deeper into the deck", and he doesn't tell you how to go deeper into the deck, you will have to SEE him do it, and watch his hands carefully...
That is just an example...
And on his first DVD, he explains only some of the things he used in a trick, not all of them. Example: He will say, "...and then execute Charlie Millers Cascade Control" (he dont accually use that control, buy im just trying to paint you a picture), so you will have to look into other sources to learn that sleight that he used, and not teach it.

I don't think the teaching is that bad, and, to be honest, I wouldn't really say that the material is incredibly advanced. Yes, you will need to have a good grounding in basic sleights, but that's fair enough. If you don't have that kind of background, then you should probably be going for something a bit easier.

Sounds pretty bad, :( I hope i wont regret that i just did order it.

Still i have read that almost everyone loves the set.

Don't get me wrong, i LOVE the set...
And i am pretty much sure you will love it too. And you wont be dissapointed, i can guarantee you that ;)

Maybe i was a little bit harsh, but i was used to type of teaching they have here on T11, where they go over every single detail 3 times, just to be sure :)

Thats great, i hope i will enjoy it. You get spoiled with t11s teaching because its so great.

How hard are the material on there? Is it something i will have to spend months on learning?
