Hey everyone!
Saturday night I was asked to perform for a friend of mine's birthday party. I tried out some new material that I haven't really performed live in front of people yet and it actually went really well and they were all thoroughly entertained by it. I thought I would share my set with you in case any of you want to ever try it out. Worked like a charm for me!
So I opened with Lip Smacker by Paul Harris which is a mint transpo effect. I explained that we will need to freshen our breaths for an effect later in the show.
I then said I would perform my next trick for a dollar. No one had a dollar on them (which was okay for my next bit) so I took out my wallet and pulled out a dollar and performed Ignition by Chris Smith.
Since my wallet, was already out from putting the dollar away, I then went straight into Kolossal Killer by Kenton Knepper. I explained that I felt that I had a special connect with the birthday girl and that I was able to predict what she was going to do before the show even started. (She chose the the 3 of Spades, this comes in handy later).
I then said that predictions aren't the only things I can do with cards and pulled out my deck of cards and performed Counterfeit by Wayne Houchin. What was nice about this effect was I was able to interact with them during this effect and hand away the fully restored card at the end of the trick for her to keep as a memory.
Lastly, I closed with French Kiss by Wayne Houchin. The reason why this was so great is because the card that she picked to sign her name on was none other than the 3 of Spades. She thought that I had somehow orchestrated that all along when really it was just luck. Instead of my name, I wrote down "Happy Birthday!" on the card. Before I did the transpo, I asked her to recall what happened with the mints (which is also the reason why we needed to freshen our breaths was for this effect
). She recalled that she had two mints and then one had transported to my mouth. I then explained I was going to try it again only this time with cards. I then performed French Kiss and everyone was freaking out as we revealed that the cards hand switched in our mouths thus leaving her with a "Happy Birthday!" message and an excellent way to close the routine.
I hope you all have just as much fun with this as I did performing it. Here's the quick set:
-Lip Smacker by Paul Harris
-Ignition by Chris Smith
-Kolossal Killer by Kenton Knepper
-Counterfeit by Wayne Houchin
-French Kiss by Wayne Houchin
*(I was going to perform French Kiss combined with Smoke by Alan Rorrison but the gimmick slipped in my pocket as I was trying to reach for it so I had to abandon it real quick and perform solely French Kiss. Just an extra idea to make your presentation that much more powerful at the end).
