I am leaving for a very long car ride soon, and I would rather not be bored the whole time. So I am looking for something new, something interesting.
What should I get?
First what do I do:
- Cards
- Purist
- I like modern and Classic
- 5 years into magic
- I like challenes
Hopefully this is enough information.
So what should I get?
Please help, I would like an easy to read book with great and much materail in it. The catch is that I only 24$ to spend.
Thank you
- Donald

24... thats quite the tightness... haha
I have no idea bro...
Originally, I would suggest Joshua Jay's Session. But its 40$
it also has a accompanient book called Five Forty Seven. Not extremely hard stuff, just a nice read.
Ignoring your price range I would suggest material by John Carney, Richard Kaufman, Banachek.
Anyhoo... how bout doing something which wont cost you
how bout...
-jamming your ipod with magic performances and just watching them.
-write a new Organic Creations
-go on a magic brainstorm ramble where you write down everysingle thought in your mind and later work on the ideas
-See how hard you can throw cards at the car next to you
-If you have AoA, then make the cool little souvenir things inside: Engs Bottles, the orange thing, etc.
-Perform for the car next to you. So it limits you to visual and non-audible magic. And it requires a nice "neighbor" as well of course.

Haha some ncie ideas there, I think I may get a few things from John Carney from On Demand section, but really want High Spots from Caleb Wiles.

Those made me laugh really had.

Since cash is tight, you could download a few 1-ON-1s and load them onto an iPod.

Is there a need to buy something new? keep the money, why don't you atually spend your time practicing the things you already have?

I agree. You're only on a car ride. Sleep, listen to music, read a normal book like a normal person.

How do you get the downloads on to your I pod?

You import them to your iTunes librarty. Right click on them and select, "Make iPod/iPhone version." Next time you synch your iPod, they will be on there.

This. You don't have to eat, drink and breathe magic to "be a magician". Coming to this site is incredibly depressing sometimes. It almost seems like some of the kids here are all alone, so they flock to an online community with people who "understand them" instead of making the effort to find friends a little closer to home.

Think about maybe doing something other than magic with your time. I know you love the hobby, because I do too, but it might be worth it to occasionally set down the deck and walk away.

I suggest get Carney's material on Palming. You can import it into your ipod and practice all day. I garauntee itll keep you busy
If you will buy something, I suggest buy something that requires a lot of practice such as card manipulation or just the hardest material you can get. I suggest Ray Kosby's impossible card magic. Quite the impossible.
and also get some actual reading material. How bout biographies? I read one of Houdini's and that was quite awesome. I dont suggest autobiographies as they tend to bias towards sides of the stories.

more ideas for things you can do with no cost:
-get 3 or more decks of cards and shuffle them all together face up and face down nice and mixed up. Keep trying to beat your own record at fixing them all back to new order.
-try to build a house of cards at every stop, whether a red light or just a break or a pitstop.
-take an old deck and glue it in some way so it looks like some crazy display. Then show the cars next to you and see if they crash or something.
-Write a magic based story on based on your card ride and things you see along the way.
-Throw a card out of the window and see if you can get it to boomerang back.
-Throw a card infront of the car and see if you can catch up to it and catch it again
-Make a film: cardistry, actual film with a story, stop motion, etc
-Design a new deck. Since youre into graphics, this should be quite fun. Im a graphics man myself and I too am working on a deck. I have designed.. nothing. :D

A lot of great stuff there I am definately going to do:

take an old deck and glue it in some way so it looks like some crazy display

get 3 or more decks of cards and shuffle them all together face up and face down nice and mixed up. Keep trying to beat your own record at fixing them all back to new order.

Thanks
