Hey Guys,
Today (or around today, I don't really know) marks around a year of cardistry for me. I know that not all of you guys have been expectantly waiting for me to post my one year video, but some of my youtube subscribers and 'card friends' have been wondering about it so I figured I'd give you what's going on.
I have a really tough year in school this year (I'm a junior in high school) so its been quite difficult to go out and find a location to shoot and, more simply, find time to do it. I have though, and for the past couple of weeks I have been shooting, flourishing, editing, re-shooting, re-flourishing, and re-editing over and over and over and over and (one more) OVER again until I capture about just exactly how good I am after a year with a deck of cards in my hands. The stuff I kept was what I thought to be some of my best work yet, and the final editing process is now underway and, if I may say so, it's starting to look pretty damn good.
But this post isn't really about letting you guys know that I'm really smart in school, or that I have little time for stuff other than life, or even about letting you know about my flourishing talents or abilities. This post is mainly so that I can say thanks. Thank you so much to everyone who has helped me along. People forget that cardistry is a form of art, and so I thank all those that realize, and helped me realize, that you need to make it presentable. From trashmanf's brutally honest evaluations of my first noob videos to praises for "Eyes Wide Shut" on the theory11 forums, I have gotten so much better and it is all thanks to you guys. Thanks to the magic communities such as Decknique, Theory11, dananddave.com, thecuso.info, and themagicreview.com, which offer a place to share what you have and get (in most cases) positive feedback that will better your performance styles, and thanks so much to the people that run them: J. Bayme and the whole theory11 crew, Dan and Dave Buck, Alejandro Portela, and my buddy Matt Tarrant, all who have been so supportive in the online communities. I also thank the individuals that are just plain skilled that inspire everyone else to go out and flourish (or do magic. sorry jordan
): Jordan Lapping, Chris Hestnes, David Blanch, Geraint Clarke, Jonus Haglund, Allan Hagen (who has personally inspired my love for editing), TheCuso (Alejandro Portela), Jamz, Kevin Ho and the Virts, and anyone else that I am forgetting right now that inspire thousands to be the best that they can.
I know by now your falling asleep, or screaming at the monitor about the noob kid who thanks everyone, or possible shooting your cards across the room and crying (i don't know. . ), and I know that I'm about to sound like Mr. Cheesehead over here, but I also would like to encourage everyone to keep these forums as what they are intended to be: a positive haven of feedback where all people from countries all over the world care share their common work with a common purpose: to improve it for the betterment of the art itself.
That's my little spiel, so stop crying, go pick up your cards, and flourish. Remember that its an art, and treat it as an art. Be thankful that there are places like the three I am posting this note at: places that are there to help. And remember that you don't have to take anyone's advice: whatever floats your boat is what your here looking for.
Happy Flourishing! And thanks again to all!
Cheers,
CMS
Ps: OH! And about the video (if any of you care
). You can expect it to be "released" (oh the suspense) hopefully in the coming week.
