Constructive Criticism

Constructive Criticism is often ignored, and im not talking about only Theory11 but everywhere.

Why?

People put things like, "Comment Please", "Give Advice" but when its given they cry and run amok because its not something good like "Oo, thats was cool, your good!".

Constructive Criticism is something you grow off of. Its not that someone hates the trick, hates your performance orsmth. Its about them giving they´re views on the sleights you used or tips on what not to do in the future and what to look out for. Its a vital part of growing. My volleyball coach often comes to me and says out what i do wrong, without going light on me, he truly says "Your Jumping Technique s****" and gives advice on it. And i take that and make myself better.

I remember when i started out in magic, i know that criticism can be brutal but you got to be open to that. If you block everything out you wont be going anywhere in magic or anything.

So what was my point with this?

Brighter ones figured it out, i want to hear what you have to say about the topic. This is something that has been talked about before in other threads but never like this.

Let me hear your stories about your Constructive Criticism good sides and bad ones.

I completely agree on what you have to say about constructive criticism. I play tennis, and my coach is direct and to the point. It's harsh at first but you will come to realize that its only going to help you in the long run.

I think that a good place to go if you want constructive criticism for flourishes is decknique.net

they don't beat around the bush

if your flourish sucks, then they will say it sucks more balls than paris hilton and give you a 1/5 (well, not that severe, but they will definitely give you a 1)

that's my input

Very true, I use to take it horribly, when I found out about the Internet.
But I look back, and see what it has done for me.
But there can be nice ways of putting it of course, if you truly are trying to help someone, or just scare them away from magic.

Most people don't take constructive criticism well because it isn't validating their egos. I hate to say it, but most people just aren't that mature.

Consider also the publisherless nature of the internet. There is no quality control, and a large community of the unskilled and untalented seeking approval and validation while being too lazy to work. And with large numbers of them, they form entire communities to stoke each other's egos with the unspoken caveat that they will have similar praise heaped on them in return.

I love criticism, you may of noticed from a few of my threads that I take it well, and I use it to improve.

Just because someone says you should change it, it doesn't mean you have to do what they say, however, if it is to improve, there maybe something wrong you are doing, so over come it.

The more criticism you improve, the higher the ranking you go... Up and up you go.

I like constructive criticism, it almost always comes from someone who wants to make you better and that person realizes that you are only gonna get better if you know the truth and that person will not hesitate to tell you that truth.

Younger magicians don't like constructive criticism(most that I have seen) because they will have practiced a trick for a long time and can perform it very well about 7/10 times and they think they have mastered it. Well they still have not mastered it so a certain move might go wrong and they will still think it looks fine when they put it in a video and ask for comments.
Then they get all stressed out because they think they tried so hard and everyone hates them and they're jealous and blah blah blah. (That example was actually my experience when I first started in magic)

BTW I also have a coach who gives me the hard facts in the most truthful way and tells me how I can improve so I can become the greatest swimmer I can be

I strongly agreed with you. I know that constructive criticism is quite harsh when it comes to magic, but we are growing. Without it, we would never improve our skills.

I'd rather have people complaining about other things rather than sucking up. if i wanted to be sucked up to, I'd ask- instead of criticism. makes life easier.

Least, that's my take on it.

Edit by Siinful: I edited your post quite a bit to show the same general message, but with a bit less profanity. ;)
