i know this is really off topic but you guys are really my only access to out of country individuals and i was wondering if i could ask a few questions. Im doing a speech for one of my courses and need some data on diet and exercise. If you could state what area of the world your in how many times a week you eat out versus eating a home cooked meal that would be great. Also how often you exercise. And no, cardistry is not exercise. haha. now to bring it back around to magic related, how many people think that a speech class or similar course is a beneficial thing in magic as far as presentation and overcoming nervousness.

mods, im sorry this is off topic i was just hoping for a little bit of an international perspective.

First advice: I think you could maybe make this into a poll so more people vote in it than actually take the time in their busy days to make a post like mine.
(i.e. 2-3 times a week excersise...etc.)

I think that speaking is [for me] a bit different than performing because speaking I am ok, but when I perform my hands usually start shaking...etc. I know that I won't mess up because people are just listening, not you really trying to fool them without flashing anything.

Anyway, my response to the "poll":

-Eat out once or twice every 2 weeks.
-Excercise every day after school for 1 and a half hours, and play 2 hrs of soccer each weekend.

Good luck in your speech.

Take care,

-Sanj

I live in Norway - so here goes:

per week:
3 hours of icehockey
1/2 hours of snowboarding
5 hours of free running (normal running and free running)

And I always eat home cooked meals. So much better!

I live in England, and I;

Play an hour and a half of Rugby every Wednesday (an extra hour and a half on a Saturday if there's a match on - every fortnight, I'd say)
I play six hours of tennis a week (I should really get back into that... it used to be 20+ hours :()
And I'll work out for an hour every thursday.

So that's 8.5 - 10 hours a week.

I try to go to the gym once of twice a week, although it doesn't always happen. If I had time i'd go 3-5 times a week but I just don't have time. As for eating out, it's too random to put a number on it.

To answer your second point, I think a speaking class may help somebody who gets nervous easily when talking to people although if you don't have a problem with nervousness then I can't see it helping much.

I probably eat out about 2-3 times a week, and go riding on the weekends. Those that don't think riding a dirtbike is work, guess again. Training, racing, endurance, etc. It's very exhausting and burns a lot of carbs and calories. When the weather gets nicer, I'll be riding once during the week, and on the weekends.

I'm from Serbia
And i eat out probably 4-6 times a week, because fast food here is great :)
I'm going to the gym 5 times a week for about 90minutes, so it's about 7 and a half hours a week in the gym :)

And yes, i think that speech can help you in your nervousness when performing magic...

Good luck

My Name is Dee Christopher and I'm an "Eat-Out-a-Holic"

We eat out quite a bit, we live right in the city centre though, so that's the (poor...but close to valid) excuse :p

Lola does make the best lasagne in the world though, she puts bacon into the mince and it makes it AMAZING.

I do minimal exercise, I used be a martial arts freak, but I don't have that much free time on my hands anymore!:(

I eat out as much as possible. I'm a huge fan of good food, but as a vegetarian, I generally eat quite well. I run when I can and do some torso work when I have the time.
And yes, I do think a public speaking course and a basics in theatre will have a positive impact on your masgic- it certainly did for mine :)

I live in Saudi Arabia.
Here, we are known for our sedentary life style. I personally eat out 3-4 times week, and usually its fast food. In holidays, me and friends hang out and have dinner outside in a dialy basis. However, there are alot of citizens who prefer household meals, I know some people who almost never eat outside, and if they did, they'll go for traditional food.

Saudi got one of the highest rates of Diabetes in the world, 25% in the population are diabetic ( type 2 ), and in a recent study, the same rate goes for coronary heart disease.

I feel bad to say this but beside the youth and major cities, its extremely rare to see someone exercises. However, some sports ( horse riding, soccor, ping pong and recently baseball ) are extremely, extremely common though done only for those below 30 yrs.

Myself, beside the daily walking from parking lots to the hospital where I work ( 500 meters ), thats my only exercise.

Cheers,
