I sent this as a PM earlier today to the guy that created the gEEmmick app and it fits this thread perfectly!

------------------------------♧

So I thought you'd enjoy this little story. I just performed Browser for the first time and forced Toy Story. I gave him the option to look at his selection or to not look and see what happens. He didn't look.

I kinda built up to the reveal by saying little things like it's an animation, not a newer one, I'm guessing you've seen it before, etc.

He actually guessed Toy Story before I revealed it and I was like "woah, that's crazy, I got a strange feeling when you said that." and then I turned over the phone and he flipped!

One of my favorite reactions happened a few months after I got into magic. I was performing during lunch at school and had a pretty big group of kids start watching. A teacher saw this big group standing around in a circle being pretty loud so they probably assumed there was a fight going on. I saw them come walking over and they looked in and said "oh, it's just magic tricks," and walked away. All the kids were really amazed and the teacher just casually says that and leaves. It was the calmest reaction but it's still one of my favorites.

Haha one of my favorite reactions ever (unfortunately I did not catch it on video) was when I was working at the magic shop years ago. A young lady was enjoying my demo and she asked her abuela (grandmother) to come watch. At the time I was demoing the Chinese Linking Rings. All I did was one crash link and a kid you not, she pulls out a small bottle of holy water, splashes it on me and says "El Diablo!" (The Devil) grabs her granddaughter and quickly leaves...... I was like.... WTF just happened??!?!?!? lol

Something similar happened to me. I was doing a quick impromptu performance of a standard 'I can find your card' trick with a flashy colour change as a production. After finishing, the group I was performing to did the standard 'Woah' sort of reaction, except for one person. This person just calmly says 'I know how you did it'. So, I was prepared to lie my way out of an embarrassing situation, but instead of actually working out what I did, she just says in the calmest voice I have ever heard 'You are assisted by Demons.' and walks off.

I'm pretty sure she was joking (I hope she was joking), but it's stuck with me ever since.

A magician friend of mine got me a job in sales a few years ago. They knew we were friends and that we were magicians. During the first meeting of the team someone made a joke about if I'd always have cards like he did.

My answer was shut down so fast by the boss saying something along the lines of "there will be no visible cards ever in this store in front of customers."

Apparently, months back, he had done a simple card trick for a family and the older lady in the group actually flagged down a manager and complained that there was someone doing devil things. Blew it way out of proportion and we were no longer to even look like we were doing magic.

So many people seem to have a thing about magicians and demons.

Still, it's better than being asked if we could make their wife disappear...

HA! Same kind of stuff happened to me with my time at Disneyland. Since 2008 I have had the nickname "Magic Mike," then that stupid movie comes out right... So one day I get called up to the office. The manager is like.... "So.... we got a complaint from a guest who claims you are talking about your stripper job that you have outside of work?" I'm like WTF?!?!?! lol turns out they overheard me talking about my magic and thought since I said "Magic Mike" that I was referring to a strip club.... lol I was not allowed to use that nickname anymore.... I was angry but what can you do? lol

There might be a demand for 'Stripper Magicians'. Maybe you should give it a shot.

My favorite reactions are a kind of .. stunned silence? During my Transference routine, in the beginning, there's a part where everyone makes the same expression. It's a sort of confused, "What wait's going on", "I'm not doing that!" reaction that I love and I even point it out now, because everyone makes the same face.

Other than that I generally always get a lot of joy out of the "intake of breath, stunned silence" reaction that many of my routines evoke. I rarely go for the shouting-running-around reactions.

I will also say one of my absolutely favorite reactions came not from my show, but a show I was doing with my fiancee this past June. We do a partner side show act, and she has recently taken over doing the Animal Trap. She largely uses the script I came up with, which was honed over many performances, but she is slowly making it her own. Anyway, there's a lot of build up, with multiple instances of seeming like one is going to put their hand into the trap only to stop and make a comment of some sort. It's great fun. She was doing it at one show, and as she actually popped her hand into the trap, a guy in the back just shouts, "Oh S&$%~!!!"

It was so out of the blue and genuine I literally started laughing out loud and had to walk away and take a moment to calm myself down. Absolutely hilarious. He actually came up to us a little later after the show and explained he was sorry, but he thought she was actually going to set the trap off and somehow get her hand clear of the jaws before they closed and actually just letting it close on her hand was completely shocking.

Just recently, I was performing in front of a coffee shop. I was doing a Triumph, and had a few spectators. When I finished, a guy in the crowd came up to me and asked if he could see the deck. He asked respectfully and so I handed him my Monarchs. He looked through them, and then, -lo and behold,- he led right into an ambitious card routine! No one was more surprised than me!
