Fundamental Routines

For a beginner magician, what kinds of routines do you think one should learn when just starting out. Or, what do you think are the essential routines magicians should learn when first learning.

My ideas are:

- ACR - It really helps you create your character, patter, and basic slights
- A Triumph Routine - It's very easy to convey the concept of the effect
- A Transposition - Helps you patter and is a very easy concept for specs to understand.

What other routines do you think fall into this idea.

Those effects you listed are good to learn, also I would reccommend a simple sandwich routine, I find sandwiches easier than triumphs but this and the ones you listed are great to start out with.

yeah, like the ace shaker that david blaine does. basically anything that david blaine does. His tricks are somewhat simple, but he does them well

My advice: learn just one color change but learn it better than anyone else (figuratively).

For beginners, I'd say...

2 Card Monte
ACR
Out of Sight

all 3 of which can still be done when an advanced magician. Heck! David Blaine does 2 out of 3 of them! Now that I think about it, a LOT the tricks he does are beginner level tricks, hehe. Goes to show that harder and more complicated doesn't mean better.

And though I'm at an intermediate level, I still love and do You Do As I Do from e's Street Magic dvd. Simple, Yet powerful.
