Halloween Magic

Halloween is just around the corner, and spooky magic is all around! Tis the season for scary stories, frightful freaks, and demented dead men to come to thrilling life! I wanted to know what spooky magic you're performing this year?

The babysitter my kids go to always invites all of her clients and families to Trick or Treat as a group. This year I can show up early and try to perform - so I might. If I do, it would be to all ages of kids and their parents. My considerations so far:

Linking Rings
Professor's Nightmare
Cups & Balls
An effect that tells a ghost story with an 18" piece of cord.
Less frightening finger chopper with Pocky in the "cigarette" hole. Then hand the rest of the Pocky out.

I might also bring a Halloween themed tarot deck and offer readings. Not that I'm very good at it, but I might anyway.

The gross-out stuff is staying home. One of my favorite things to perform is actually a pair of rope-through-neck effects. The rope is easy enough to bring with, but I would really need to feel out the ages / mood / maturity or lack thereof before actually performing.

My demeanor, patter and costume will need to establish a Halloween mood. Bringing the cards, handing out candy, and timing the ghost-story effect will hopefully help reinforce it.

On that note, I need to spraypaint flames on my old black duster. Going as a devil. I'll probably have it gimmicked up, but don't plan on actually using the gimmick. I just don't want to spend the time taking the gimmicks back out. Anyway, if I do perform it will be for kids & parents. I love good horror, and even worked in a haunted house over two years. But this is for kids, you know?

Edit to add: My son just reminded me that I have a chain escape effect as well. That could add a Houdini air to it all.

This is still a very touch subject to bring up so freely in open chat on a board that anyone... and I stress the anyone part, can read.

The situation is very delicate. It's not over, and it's certainly not forgotten. I'm still walking on egg shells in that place, and it's true there's a lot of people there that don't welcome me, but I think I've worked through most of the fallout there. Enough at the least to say that the light I'm looking at here at the end of the tunnel, isn't a train.

Thank you warmly though for your thoughtful concerns, and well wishes.

Coming back to this thread.

1: Congratulations, Draven! Here's hoping the best for you.

2: There may not be any formal Halloween Get Together like we have enjoyed for the last five years. That would really be my only chance to step up and perform for human beings, since I'll be taking the kids out for their trick or treating. But, until I know either way, I'll keep at it.
