Just wondering how or why you guys got started in magic?

For me i've always had a thing for magic from watching it growing up. Its funny when i think back. Watching it then i didnt care how it was done or even think the magician was doing anything funny i was unaware of anything that could be done.

I started performing magic when my dad showed me an effect, it was a basic self working effect but i loved it and wanted to know how it was done so he showed me. I still show it every now and again for old times sake.

My dad later give me an old book he used that i stilll have. It was published in 1975 or something so its older than me. Its called Magic with cards 113 east to perform miracles with an ordinary deck by Frank Garcia and George Schindler. Someday i intend in reading it

I saw a magician on a cruise ship named Jamie Allan. He did professor's nightmare, mcdonalds aces, card toon, cut and restored rope, crazy man's handcuffs, back and front palm, and slpit fan productions. I was dumbfounded. I found out he was selling magic sets and dvd's including some of the tricks, so I bought them. By the next day I was doing svengali deck tricks and crazy man's handcuffs. On the dvd it said he had a site with his friend called www.fasttricks.com. They taught techniques and routines from their mentors, Larry Jennings, Derek Dingle, and various others. This is what got me into the stuff of the masters and real classic works, not flourishes and things everyone else does. That's what set me into this path. I owe a lot to Mike Robinson and Jamie Allan. Thanks guys!

Well I was always amazed watching magicians on tv.

However, I did not get into Magic until about 8 years ago. My cousin had gone to Vegas with his parents, stopped at a magic shop, and got HOVERCARD! That's right, the Hovercard. The kid showed it to me and would not tell me how the trick was done. So I had to find out for myself, and then BANG, I got sucked into this beautiful Art that we all love.

One day I was really bored so I went on Youtube and saw some of David Blaine's street magic special. After that it was over for me, I looked for a local magic shop and bought two of the Micheal Ammar Easy card miricles and two packs of cards. (note I never looked for how to do magic videos on youtube)
