How do you Answer?

i just came back from some street magic.
and I did stigmata for this man who saw me doing some tricks for this group of people.

after stigmata he freaked.

when I was leaving he ran after me and asked

"was there a trick to it, or do you have a gift?"

what do you answer to that?

will you lie and shatter his reallity? of what is physically possible?

or tell him it was a illusion and leave him guessing for how it was done

I would've said Both. Being great at sleight of hand, flourishing, coin sleights etc. is a gift. Yet, you use those sleights to make it a trick/illusion.

Either that or just say your a performer so you can take it as you want it. I don't believe in telling anyone magic is real, that is an insult to their intelligence.

That is my opinion, others way say otherwise though.

Ive always debated with myself that when someone asks me that question.
but now when someone(if they get a chance) asks me how its done or if it was real
i simply say "were you watching closely?"and then i walk away.
to me that implies that it was an illusion but it still keeps that feeling of mystery around it.

- Say "watch... now, I want you to watch".
- Grow some long, black hair.
[ Walk off camera... ]
- Perform a camera edit
- Put it on TV as 'live magic'
