If you're serious - read this...

I was talking over the weekend to some guys from T11 and some others and had a great chat with Morgician. The talk was about many subjects, presentation, constructive criticism, and others. Here is something I would like for people to participate in if you are serious about magic and advancing yourselves in it.

I would like people to post a video of yourself explaining what is wrong with parts of the magic community and what are some changes we need to make. Just keep your discussion to under four minutes and to a single subject. If you have no cam then simply type it out legibly and there is no bashing in this thread.

I want people to hear other's opinions and take in what they say. Do you have to follow their advice and make what's theirs yours? No you don't but I'm sure we can all learn something from each other and our ideals on magic and why it seems to be sinking down.

I will post a vid soon.

Honestly, I think the focus of this is quite bad. You're completely focusing on the negative. How about, instead of a negative, what's bad rant, people state the problem once at the beginning, and spend their discussion time on how they think we could/should improve it? Not only will doing this halt what would just be an upsetting thread, but it will be much more constructive and move the direction we all would like it to go.

It's not the polarity that is wrong. It's how you apply it.

Look at Milton's epic poem "Paradise Lost".

Paradise Lost chronicles the details of Satan from shortly after his fall through the downfall and temptation of man, upwards to the coming apocalypse of Revelation.

Some would argue that the characters, and negative ambitions of the story's central figure is evil, or bad.

Yet Milton was a fundamentalist Christian.

It's not what you know. It's how you apply it

Without knowing what is wrong how can we fix anything? This is the point behind my subject, later on down the road we were going to talk about what we can do to fix the issues. I'm not a negative person but I am very critical when people want to take something seriously because I want to help them.

We still know whats wrong. Like i said, I believe (personal opinion) this could be more constructive if rather than talk about whats wrong the entire time, talk about it in the beginning, and spend the rest of your time brainstorming any possible solutions or remedies. I didn't get the impression you are a negative person, it's just my opinion that time would be better spent thinking about the solution more than the problem. The issue need only be identified once, it's the fix for that problem that takes the work.

Thats a wonderful example. The thing is though, just because he was a fundamentalist Christian does not change whether or not the poem had an evil focus. A good person can write a negative passage, and vice versa. Someones religious or worldly outlooks doesn't change the intent of their writing, nor stop them from putting their creativity towards something a little dark.
