Hey all.
So I talk about how much I like to watch magicians perform for real people instead of just their cameras, and I generally don't film my shows, but I got some footage from today's show, and thought I'd put my money where my mouth is.

It was just a few people, and a mix of kids and adults. I don't really do kids shows, so this was a bit different for me. There were a lot of babies there so there is a lot of noise and distractions during the show. I also tried a new presentation with interlace.
Well, enough excuses.

I do a silk vanish, and interlace.
I hope you enjoy. Feedback is welcome.

very nice
that was very entertaining.
But i think you overplayed the "uh oh i did wrong " thing for interlaced as I didn't really see a connection of what you did and your shoelace. Although sanders doesnt perform it with much of connection as well, I would enjoy it more if there was some... flow to it. I remember seeing a performance a while back where the guy was performing Ring Leader by Wilson using a shoelace instead of string. He gave the lace to the spectator and vanished the ring. He said it was back on the lace. Its not there but he shows that it actually went to the wrong lace, his shoe lace. When I saw that, i found it quite clever as I felt the continuity of the routine throughout. Very nice though. Love seeing live performances which isnt street magic with a shakey camera and laughing camera man.

Thanks for the feedback. I did pick up ringleader a while back. I should dig it out again. I talked to some people afterwards and they genuinely felt bad for me when I had to pull out the instructions. Of course they realized it was part of it. Any particular reason you felt it was overplayed?

I think if your playing it for laugh's, then it worked.
They seemed to think it was hilarious, i thought i was too.

Great performance.

Thanks Michael.

I received another comment that someone thought there was too much time between the vanish and the reveal. What do you all think?
This is an interesting question because I was thinking of vanishing it, and having it appear there much later - would that kill the effect? What if, after it vanishes, I told them it was going to be tied to my shoelace by the end of the show. Then near then end of the show I do the move and reveal it. The goal would be to make them feel a bit like when the monkey took the banana in Darren Browns show. You knew it was coming and you missed it.

What do you think?

Nice performance. One great thing I've seen people do with this is make the ring vanish, and say "thanks you ladies and gentelmen, good night" and try and walk away. This eases some tension from the vanish, and gets a laugh. :D

Steerpikes' thread made me think about this performance because there were a few kids there (I had to tell the kid Kyle to pay attention at the beginning because he's goofing around).

I would still appreciate feedback on the following:

If you would go this way, wouldn't the spectators suspect you tied the ring on the shoe, since there would be a big time lapse.

I'm not one to tell me audience something is going to happen before it happens, but see what works for you!
