I am pretty new to this whole thing. Though as of now I am leaning towards card flourishing and card magic. I purchased the Trilogy even though I know it's going to be a bit of a stretch for me. This was more my "buy a shiny object" dvd. I would really like to know if there is a dvd out there that contains more of basic core moves like utilities and sleights. I have ready many reviews already and am reading all the posts I can. Thanks for any help in advance.

Most "visual" learners in the magic world, are probably those who are not willing to take the time to read and comprehend what the book tries to convey. There are numerous of threads you can search for here about different aspects of magic you might be missing out on by being a "visual learner". Books can be beneficial to your growth in magic, depending on how serious/far you want to take your art.

Here are a couple of threads to get you started.

Why Books?

Books vs DVDs

If you still insist on learning from DVDs, here are links for a couple of DVD sets that might be what you are looking for.

R. Paul Wilson on the Royal Road to Card Magic 5-DVD Boxed Set

Daryl's Encyclopedia of Card Sleights - 8 Volume SET

Good luck.

Nayost I don't fully agree with you. Many people just don't learn from reading and just don't keep it in their mind and remember images alot easier, and if he is one of those people who are we to convince him otherwise.

There really is a big difference between Visual learners and other types of learners. It's a very studied topic in Educational Psychology... I don't understand the fascination some have over the idea that reading makes you smarter than other forms of learning.

+1 man! If you are a visual learner your entire life then you DEFINETLY won't get as much good information and sooner or later you are going to have to pick up a book. Try starting off small though, like Royal Road. Those descriptions were fantastic. Just get a feel of what books are liek and how they typically teach what is being presented. Don't get Wayne Kawamoto's book though lol. $30 down the drain lol. Oh, and if you have the option between Royal Road and expert card technique, get expert card technique. It's a MUCH better book IMHO. The teaching is still phenomenal but you get MUCH MUCH MORE

Back to the original question. If you're looking for a DVD to teach the basics, I like Crash Course from ellusionist.com

I do recommend getting the book Royal Road to Card Magic, but at least now you have a DVD option. Crash course is actually where I started.

Thanks for the titles guys. I will copy them all down and eventually get em all.

There are different styles of learning which work better for different people. I mean if we could all learn from books we would all be in school and have no problems, but then we would all be the same too right?

I have a real problem learning from instructional books written like novels. Anything written in a regular manual style is no problem.

If you read the threads I've attached in my post above you will see many different views on the "visual learner" in the magic world. I've never said "reading makes you smarter than other forms of learning", nor was I trying to convince St.Michael to become a non-visual learner in anyway.

I just wanted to make sure he knows the values in learning from books (if he did click on my links and read through them), and not limiting him self to ONLY DVDs. Because there many of those out there starting off in magic by only learning from DVDs. When the switch to a book they feel like it takes them longer to learn the tricks than DVDs, therefore claiming to be "visual learners" when they are really just too lazy to pick up a book and figure out what the text means.

No worries bro, I don't want to limit myself in any way, nor am I too lazy to look into books. Just as long as I am going in the right direction and moving forward that is all that matters to me. Thanks!
