One-handed fan spread problem

I'm experiencing a quirk when performing one-handed fans. I'm getting a reasonable spread overall, but the top 4 cards or so, and the bottom few cards as well spread farther apart and away from the middle section that is unattractively clumped together. Now, I have on occasion spread them evenly and I try to recreate this every time with mixed results. I'm hoping some of you guys have conquered this and know how to fix my technique.

On a side note which may help, my fans sometime look more like they are spreading away from the center at either end, instead of rotating around the center. I know some of that is to be expected b/c it's the nature of the movement, but I feel like mine looks awfully jagged.
