I've been meaning to review this for a while but never got round to it. So here I offer it to you now.
What It Contains
The Preview PDF contains 5 effects from the ingenious and innovative mind of Lee Asher. Lee himself has handpicked 5 routines, that's 1 from each of his most popular printed booklets and he offers these fantastic pieces for only $6.95!
The BS Control
Aside from the funny name, I find this control to actually be quite deceptive and if I find myself in a dead end with the four aces and the spectator pulls the old "DO A TRICK NOW OR I KEEL YOU" then this is probably one of the things I'd do to save me.
Basically you take any number of cards (4 is the usual but you can play with it how you like, that's the joy of magic folkies.
) and insert them into different depths of the deck. They are pushed fairly in and by the time they are in the deck you can control them all as one however you like. I usually bring two to the top and two to the bottom and go into a pocket thingy from there.
Tres Pass
One of the world's fastest passes. A magician fooler.
A card is inserted into the middle of the deck and the deck held normally. The performer looks at his watch and comments that this particular move takes about on--done. And the card is shown on top. It is literally that fast. NO funny moves, NO dodgy cover and best of all it's ridiculously easy.
Making Ripples
Most of you have probably seen this in the Ghost Deck preview on ellusionist (I cannot for the life of me remember who submitted it and I can't find it on E right now)
A spectators card is inserted near the bottom of the deck, not quite the bottom but maybe second or third from it. The magician readjusts the deck and clicks his fingers. INSTANTLY a ripple is seen to run up the side of the deck as the spectators card tunnels through the other cards like a -insert witty simile/metaphor/analogy here- . It actually runs through so fast that the card pops off of the top of the deck fortunately under the control of the magician who displays the card at his finger tips.
A BRILLIANT addition to your ambitious card routine for sure. I myself have trouble executing it, it may be because I have a certain habit but I'm working on it.
Touché Is What You Say - (Copied from my review of Pulp Friction Booklet)
This effect is great for gambling demonstrations really, although I haven't thought of a magical use just yet. The spectator names a number of cards and tries to cut to that number to see exactly how hard it is, on rare occasions they will cut to that number and then you can just take the deck off them and spring the cards in their face in anger or something.
The norm, however, is that they will fail and agree with you that it indeed is a hard task to cut to any number called. Still, you being the amazing Christopher David Angel Blaine that you are, you suggest to attempt such a feat whilst at the same time finding a card selected by them! And you know what? You do exactly that, the spectator calls a number and pretty damn quickly you can cut to that number and find their card.
Slap That Ace
This one I like quite a lot as a magical effect, I'm not a huge fan of one bit of the method and that is ONLY because I don't like the move.
The spectator calls stop as the magician riffles through the deck, the reason for this being to try and find the four aces; who'd have thunk it eh? The magician cuts off packets where the spectator called stop and takes the top cards from the packets. These are then revealed OPENLY to be the......most random four cards anyone could have chosen. The magician softens the blow by telling them it's hard, but luckily easy to rectify (Stop it... Stop giggling at the word rectify)
The 4 cards are scooped up and shaken, IMMEDIATELY the cards are SLAMMED onto the tabled deck and face-up, one by one the aces are removed from the top of the deck. The deck is spread showing nothing but face down cards, the four random cards have morphed into the aces.
Overall
All in all, this is a great purchase for anyone thinking about getting Lee Asher's booklets but just want to get a taste of what they can find within. I highly recommend this
