hey guys i've been working on coin magic for over a month now, and i've only made it into my one coin routine, which isnt too impressive, but the coins across material i'm working on has great potential. but, i'm starting to settle into a rut, and my practice isnt as productive as it used to be.

and some solutions i've thought on were;

moving back into cards again, but, i can do the majority of my card magic in my sleep, cause, thats all i did for a year, and i still perform that stuff regularly.

i've considered moving on to a different coin routine, but, i worry that i might settle into a rut faster because i'm already getting sick of coins.

i also thought about buying a one trick DVD or a 1-on-1 to kind of refresh me, but i feel like i'm missing out on a great deal when i could buy a book or a multi-trick dvd for equal or lesser value and get my moneys worth.

those are the thoughts that i've had. but as always new ones are welcome. or pick one of my ideas and defend it, that would be great!

Sit down and try to create something. Brainstorm ideas or just mess with something different.

Create a new card trick, since the material you've mastered is finished.

Coins are something I can only practice in moderation. Some guys can sit and do them all day, and if I start working with them I can practice some time without much boredom. Take a day or two off and then come back to it with fresh ideas, or something.

I don't know, just a few thoughts. If you do get a 1-on-1 get something advanced that will keep you busy for a while.

The muscle pass really isn't THAT hard.. and it will make you're classic palming infinitely easier. and if you can do it in both hands, you'll be able to create some ridiculous stuff.

its not that its hard that worries me,

its just that, i dont want to go out of order, it's like reading a series of books out of order, it just doesn't feel right

that and i'm worried i'll miss some great fundamentals, that i'll need further down the road..

I see what you mean, but learning the muscle pass first is fine. Just work on the basics also. There really is no point were the muscle pass fits in (at least I don't think), so you could just work on it while working on some of the basics.

I think it is important to learn a good classic palm first though. It's best if you can use classic palm to do the muscle pass, and not a different position. I use a different position because I didn't learn classic palm first. I get a foot and a half with no hand movement now, but I feel that the technique isn't as good as it could be. Since I'm obsessed with the move, I'm now going back to learn a good CP so I can then do the muscle pass with CP position. It may not work out of CP position, but I'm gonna give it a shot.

haha how did i know that scarecrow1 would show up in this thread eventually.

but what he mentioned brought me back to my OP, i'm falling into a coin rut, and just adding the muscle pass, wont get me out of the rut i'm in with my other material.

Don't worry about learning the muscle pass. That was a bad suggestion. Try a card trick, like this one:

[EDIT] And wait for poo-poo to tell me that is not a good card trick.

I have a feeling your like me, you get tired of something after a while. I find the best solution is to just add variety. Work on cards, then work on coins, ect. Just make sure to finish what you were working on before you move to something else. Then, when you go back to (coin magic in this instance), you'll have a renewed energy for it, and really work on it. Hope that helps.

EDIT: There is always rubberband magic and mentalism. Some really neat stuff there.

"Just make sure to finish what you were working on before you move to something else."

finish what?

I'm just saying that you should finish what you were working on (if you were working on anything) before moving on to some other area in magic. So if you were practicing the backpalm in coin magic, finish that before you move to mentalism (for instance). Don't just drop it. Sorry for not being specific .
