What do you do about 99% of the population who have no idea who the hell they are? And what if you know who you are, but you aren't happy with it?

And turns your dreams into sunshine and rainbows!

God I hate platitudes.

As an aside, if words were people, I would find patter and bludgeon it to death in a dark alley. I hate that word almost as much as I hate platitudes.

Didn't see this before I posted so in response.

A few exercises that help in self-discovery:

Find someone that inspires you and you see as a role model and imitate the qualities in them that you admire.

Make a list of adjectives that you want people to use to describe you and try to personify them.

Name 3 animals off the top of your head. Describe the 3.

The first is how you are.
The second is how you want to be.
The third is how others see you.

(this was surprisingly accurate for me when I first tried it not knowing the meaning what the animals meant)

P.S. I got monkey, tiger, and snake when I first did that one.

I truly am a Monkey- funny, playful not very serious
I want to be a Tiger- powerful, respected, someone you don't wanna mess with

But people see (saw) me as a Snake-quiet, sneaky, cunning

Got it?

PM me if you have any questions

Im bored so im gonna input my opinion.
A presentation is basically how you present a trick (oh no ****e)
What makes a good presentation is :interest, consistency, and relation.

Patter is not the key to a good presentation. I have seen many magicians with great presentations without saying a single word.

1. If your presentation is interesting and not some boring old pick a card thing, then people will like it more.
2. If you change between characters. Like from mean to nice to silent to loud then people will find it awkward and find it a bit fake.
3. If your audience dont relate to what you are doing then they wont be interested (refer to number 1.) For example, imagine a magician who is performing something. "So like the other day....Wayne Houchin showed me something made by Vernon. He told me that his fingers felt very odd. So Wayne asked him 'Are Dey Lite?' HAHHAHAHHAHAHHAAHHAHA and he made a light appear at his finger *light appears at finger*" you get the point

Some people have very different character than their actual personality. I disagree with Being yourself. Although it works well, there may be a better persona that you could do. It just takes more work and time.

You little stalker!
The key to presentation is substantive meaning. Which is making the spectators care about your magic. For strong presentation, you should make your tricks with themes that people care about, to give them an emotional hook. It's really hard to explain but i'll put it this way: No card trick will ever be as strong as Prophet or EB simply cuz people like money, and when they see you can make money instantly, they will be hooked. Gambling themes in which you deal yourself a royal flush or a perfect blackjack are also good. Just think of this phrase: "So you can do magic. Why should I care?"

There are some great presentation enhancers like this in Strong Magic by DArwin Ortiz. I suggest you check that out, it's the best book i've ever bought.

I dont agree with MagicShadow 9 of his statement about the substantive meaning. Audience need to relate but not to such a literal level. I have performed Prophet before and I can say that I have gotten a lot better reactions from some card tricks.

I find it's good to have a little bit of everything in a performance. ie. for witness, I use Lee Ashers joke when he starts talking about the back changing, I also tell a quick story about the joker in the bag. It all builds up into a great reaction.
