This week we wanted to do a different kind of Saturday Night Contest. For some of you that are more textually inclined, this one may be fairly simple. For some of you that aren't, this one may be a bit difficult, but we hope in the process that everyone learns something. That's the point.

On my desk for the past four weeks has been a single book. That book is the answer and the question posted to you tonight. Which iconic book in the field of playing card handling published in the mid-1800's has the phrase "'he who runs may read' at the end of its introduction and the words "keep your eyes and ears open" at the end of its valedictory?

Everything you need to identify it is contained in this forum post. Submissions with your answer should be emailed to snc@theory11.com. Include your theory11 username in your email so we know who to give the prize to if you're right. The first person to correctly identify it tonight will receive the 1-on-1 of your choice, sent on the house.

Winner will be announced on or before 11:00pm EST this evening. Good luck!

UPDATE - We have a winner! Congrats to Ben Long for his correct submission. See the answer now.

Ugghhh... this is so hard, can we have unlimited guesses? Or is it only 3 gueses per person?

Limit of three guesses per, but look carefully at the question posed and the answer should be easier to find. The question stated that the book was originally published in the mid 1800's - that's before Erdnase.
