Stage magic?

Ok so our school theater department is doing a Talent showcase, which is pretty much a talent show for people in the theater department.

I really want to be a part of it and do some magic the problem is that about 98% of everything I know is close up magic and any stage magic, I don't have the time or the props to perform them.

I'm performing next monday and I need a solid act.

I email my director if I could have a camera on me that is being projected on a big thingy, she hasn't gotten to me yet.

But just incase that can't be done, does anyone have any suggestions of what effects would be good to do on stage.

I was planning to perform "Choke" by Sean Fields but that's only 1 effect. What else?

With a good presentation the miser's dream will work.
Also try some kind of routine where you rip up an audience member's bill and make it reapear somewhere else. (I assume you can work out how that's done.) They freak at first and then freak again!

emagician had a good idea,
bill to lemon, or orange is always a good one.
it plays big and there are alot of ways to joke with that.
you could also do a real "bad" magic show, with lots of joke magic.
thoes r kinda harder to put together tho.

you could do a mentalist effect, or pulse stop.
there are lots of effects that are pretty easy that you could do for a large audience,
just take what you ahve, and try to play it for a big audience.

Alain Choquette is a close up magician.. he admits it himself. He takes his close up work and makes them a stage performance.

For example, Gypsy thread. People may not see the thin white cotton thread you would normally use but maybe they'll see a neon green thread when there's a black light shining on it.

Run with the magic you already have. I do that for my stage shows

You can try:

Ball Manipulation
Card Manipulation
Zig Zag Box Illusion
Spiker
Metamorphisis
Hanged Man Illusion/Transposition
Russian Roullette
Large Animal or Vehicle production

Those are always great stage effects.

Ahh? do what you do best, closeup. Mac king does a ton of tricks meant for closeup on stage. His cards accross PRESENTATION is the best I have seen. Because of his PRESENTATION, I have tried some closeup on stage to great effect. It just depends on how you PRESENT the effect.

Did I give enough of a hint, or do I require a proper PRESENTATION.

You little stalker!
I agree with Nexus, Mac King's Cards Across is brilliant. I love the Cloak of Invisibility idea.

Anyways, in your situation, i would suggest a simple Invisible Deck routine. You can go around the audience and have different people name a color, suit, a number, etc. It's a very easy trick to do and you should be able to master it in a week.

I'm performing next monday and I need a solid act.

"Solid act" and "less than a week" are mutually exclusive conditions.

I know you say you don't have the time and props for stage magic, so maybe you should wait a year.

Think how much you could learn in a year with a solid goal at the end! Spend some time and some money investing in your magic.

I mean, think of how much you could learn if you were serious about growing as a magician and not just craving immediate attention without concern for how well you and your art may come off.

Not saying that's what you are doing - unless you actually think it is better to slap something together in a week than wait and offer a quality experience.

Your call.
