Hey Guys,

Here's a switch I created that combines some old techniques and some new techniques. It may not look like it from the video, but what goes on behind the hands is a lot different than what you expect it might be.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-0OsnovWRmo

Please tell me what you guys like AND don't like. I'm open for any constructive criticism. It's still being refined as we speak, but that's the basic idea of it all.

You can even perform this in front of someone head on. I was playing a round of Texas Hold'em with my brother who was sitting right in front of me. I told him to look at a card and deal it to me. I did the switch as he was looking at my hands directly and he didn't notice ANYTHING.

This switch really works in real life situations. Not surrounded, but even if you are playing with some rich friends that can't gamble worth sh*t, it's nice to pull this on the off-beat.

Once again, please tell me what you guys like AND don't like. Don't post comments saying "That's the MacMillan Switch." ITS NOT. Completely different. And sorry for the long post...

Cheers,

Casey Rudd

Looks very clean, I guess there's a motion that's a little fishy, but it doesn't seem like it could do anything. Looks very good, but I have to ask, where did you come up with the name Acetone?

I actually have no idea how I came up with the name. It sounded cool so I decided to use it. Haha. I didn't want a common name or anything. Some of my other effects I've created are called Avarice and Surmise, you dont see those names everyday....haha

Thanks for the kind words DaveyG! Glad you liked it. And im glad you did what i asked and said things you liked AND disliked. Most people ignore that and put whatever they want...

Do you have to hold the card for so long? That's not directed in a mean way but it looks kind of fishy. If you do though it's still very clever and I look forward to your release of "New Beginnings".

In response to amodernmagician,

No, It's just supposed to be a way of holding the card when you are looking at your poker hand more discretely. I held it for a while in the video to show it was just one card. Of course since you are playing a table game you can ditch it.

Thanks and glad that you liked it! The past few months I have been getting ideas like crazy. I have an awesome handling of Encore by Dan and Dave called Avarice, and a sandwich/transpo effect called Surmise. More info coming soon!

I have to say I would probably never use this. Angles could be a problem with this and I can't even see myself performing for someone on a table at that angle. And on a poker table surrounded by people everything has to be basically angle-proof.

Oh I see. Sorry, I was thinking in a magic perspective. But the action of peeking at your hand makes it more believable. I'm guessing this was created mainly for gambling (or hustling/cheating) purposes?

Yes and no. I don't really cheat, it's against my morals, but it's nice to execute once in a while in front of someone. What I usually do is that my friends always say that I'm going to be some Blackjack dealer in Vegas or something. So I show them some gambling techniques that they can watch out for if they ever decide to gamble. I don't reveal, but I "reveal" it, you know? I don't explain the actual method, i make a pseudo-tutorial.

Okay, I see exactly where you would come from in that perspective. It's not meant to be something you would use in a "for-real" game of poker. Maybe do it to about 2 or 3 friends while playing some "fun" poker on a saturday night. Just chilling with friends.

It's also nice to pull this off with no one noticing. I did it at school while playing some hold'em after a test and no one noticed. I won the hand too. It was awesome....

Hey man, cool color change. When I saw the name Acetone i was thinking of a cards face like... melting into another color haha. But it was still cool!

I see you have The Paper Engine over there... getting ready for some Junto awesomeness?

:D

Oh dude, the Paper Engine, By Forces Unseen, and Dan and Dave are where I get some of my inspiration from. The Paper Engine has no significance to the switch, I put it there to block the ugly wooden desk....

I'm also wanting to get Expert Card Technique and maybe Mnemonica by Juan Tamariz, or any of Juan's books would be amazing in itself.

Glad that you like it!

Awesome dude, I've been immersing myself in Tarbell's complete course of magic haha.

It's an amazing set of books, and The Art of Astonishment set is on it's way, which I got for ridiculously cheap.

But yeah, expert at the table would be great for the kind of stuff you're doing.
