Hi guys, Im thinking of buying The Trilogy + Andthensome by D&D, but a subscription to the EMC is also interesting... what would you buy? If you have any other ideas, be sure you post them!

Are you a magician or a flourisher? There aren't a whole ton of routines in EMC it's mainly theory based. If you don't perform or plan on performing professionally there's no reason to get EMC.

I don't mean to sound so blunt... but the above advice is stupid. If you want to learn the art, any art for that matter, theory is THE most important aspect. That's what sets the artist aside from the hobbyist.

Thanks to everyone! I'll be getting EMC soon... I'll make a review probably.

Thanks again!

now for my question, where do you purchase the dvds?

On the EMC site, you just have to register and make sure the address you enter is correct, as that's the one they'll ship the DVDs too. Comes with on-demand video access, since the lectures are all done.

Asher - There is no time limit, but I suspect that they only made a certain number of the DVDs. They haven't started shipping yet to the people that registered for the conference (I think they were shooting for the middle of February). So you probably have some time, but I wouldn't wait too long.

Trikukabi - I agree with Asher, Josh and Justin -- EMC is great. It has really helped me in terms of how I think about magic. However, Beans did have a point. If you are looking for routines to perform, you are going to be disappointed. There are some amazing routines and some amazing sleights -- a great way to classic force a card and an amazingly convincing subtlety for a French drop that will floor even those people that know about a French drop. However, the majority of the conference addresses other issues rather than teaching effects. So if you are purely looking for material, you will be disappointed.

The only other thing to consider is a subscription to Genii or Magic or another magazine. I get Genii and love it (plus you get on-line access to all of the back issues with a subscription). There you get the best of theory, history and effects.
