Well, I see the point of many of the forum members that the original forth question has been asked several times. however, This debate topic is SUPPOSED to occasionally bring up old topics and pull them into one very large and organized thread.

Well, here is the new weekly debate question. I have always found this question to be rather interesting to myself. Magicians who specialize in card sleight of hand could almost always manipulate a card game that wasn't being heavily monitored. But would you?

Question 4: "Do you use your skills to cheat at card games? Why or Why not? Is Cheating in these situations all right?"




So go ahead... Dive in. (My answer is in the post below.)

I personally never use my sleight of hand to cheat anywhere. Even at a family poker game I won't cheat. i feel that cheating is very wrong and can get you into trouble.

I know what some of you are saying: "Wait! You always cheat people and decieve people when you perform. It's part of the job."

Not exactly. When you use sleights to accomplish a trick it is for the spectators beneifit. You are adding amazment to their day and hopefully givingthem some exitement. However, when cheating in a card game, it is for YOUR beneifit. you are treying to cheat the others out of victory and take it for yourself. sometimes you try to get money too.

I mean, just read what happened to Daniel Madison. He probab;y has some stories for us...

Those are just my feelings though. Anyone else?

Sometimes. But i usually tell them that i could make them win at blackjack or poker. Then cheat like mad in front of other unsuspecting people.

Quite fun.

I don't think any magicians cheat at games without the other people knowing because...well...Daniel Madison will tell you.

When people say, can u cheat at cards? ( i get that question a lot) I show them a demonstration using double deals, bottom deals, palming, the invisible palm, and showing how I can deal anyone a blackjack

I would totally cheat If it were possible,Whats wrong with cheating... if you are being cheated yourself. In case any of you have been to Vegas you know what I'm talking about.

Do you realise how little cheating goes on in casinos, Ihara? It's nearly impossible to cheat at a card game in casinos. They have a nearly impenetrable security system, cameras pointed on every square foot of the casino floor, and guards/observers with their eyes on every cluster of tables.

Way to completely fail.

Well to answer the thread question.
yes i have/do use my skills to cheat at 21.
But not many of the skills are used by magicians as in a performance or routines with cards.
Is it wrong:yes.
Will i Stop probably not.Its too much fun.Not because of the money,but because of the thrill you get from it.its hard to describe.
I do know my limits though.and im not a professional con artist or anything i dont do it constantly or live to do it.Its just fun for me.
I dont do backroom poker games either so i wont get my legs broken.
I either play with friends.Or my dads boss's rich friends.And i act like im a noob to cards with them.so no suspicion arises.And i dont play with the same people for a long time.

True.
You cant touch the cards in a casino.
So sleight of hand is out of the question.
You have to be an advanced card counter.
And even then you have a high chance of getting caught.

Well I've used the clipshift during a game of Egyptian Rat Screw to have the jack of diamonds be every single one of my cards. That was more of a joke though...

He obviously didn't seeing as you then went on the post a reply to the thread, as did many others after you.

As previously mentioned, it'd be impossible to cheat at cards (at a casino) but if it were possible I'd definitely give it a go. It'd be interesting. I've always wanted to try sleights for things other than magic but it seems everything I want to do is illegal.

Like I said, most people who talk about cheating are lying rather than confessing.

I'm actually attending a lecture on Thursday by Sal Piacente, the expert in cheats and gambling cons. He's trained security at Vegas casinos and consulted the FBI. Should be interesting.

I will not cheat at family or friend games, because it is the equivalent of stealing. And how low is it to steal from your family and friends? The only game ever cheat in ii "BullS**t" aka "BullCrap" in that game its fun to cheat and decieve its basically the point of the game
