I really don´t like him...neither his style or his tricks or his humor...I agree he has some nice tricks like Card in Ballon or those ones with gum...but other are pointless and easy to figure out (talking as a spectator)...those are my thoughts about him...

Jay Sankey... was the epitome of creative magic back in the day.
When I first started, I looked at his earlier/est material and damn was that stuff good. It made a great impression on me. 1 DVD had so much on it that was useful and not knuckle busting. They were varied in concepts and style. He seems like a great guy who would just be fun to hang around with.
But lately... He seems to have sold out a bit. He makes "new" DVDs with exact same concepts but in different context. I swear I've seen a thumbtip and flash paper TNR routine atleast 3 times... And as well as this, he has put out a lot more single trick DVDs which just dont seem worth it. The tricks themselves are alright, but honestly... a vanishing sharpie for 15 dollars? No.

He always says that this dvd is the best, the most amazing and the best dvd ever created.

But months later, he will release another DVD saying its the most amazing and the best dvd ever created. AGAIN

Luis...yes...I saw the clown video and it was VERY disturbing and odd. He looked like a crack addict.

Some of his material seems really good and I have used certain effects, but as mentioned, others look like the same tricks from other DVDs only dressed differently.

I will say his book, Beyond Secrets is one of my top 3 books of all time though. It is an outstanding short read.

Do you remember the name of that DVD? I'd be interested in checking it out.

Everyone who knows me knows my thoughts on Jay.

I feel he is one of (if not THE) most creative magician to date. He is an INCREDIBLY funny and nice guy.

His magic is, regardless of how much he may rehash, original. He works hard to create audience tested concepts and EVERYTHING he puts out works as a practical magic trick.

I own almost 35 of his DVDs, all of his lecture notes, a lot of his individual tricks and I also have some of his books. I am a huge Sankey fan.

He has great work and does a lot for the magic community.

man!! If you see the video of him of "christof the clown" and you still think he is a "incredibly funny" guy...then I don´t know what´s wrong with you

I remember Christoph' Le Clown.

It was rather odd, but I still remember laughing at it. It is his sense of humour, it might not fit all of you.

I actually asked him about that when I met him (cause my friend LOVED that video) and he said,

"Man... Yeah. Christoph was something people either LOVED or HATED. I dunno. I just felt like making a video!"

Makes sense to me.

I´m sorry...I guess the one who has something wrong is your friend!!!

and you´re right...his sense of humor is really odd...next time he feel like doing a video he should do it in private...and away from almost everybody that don´t enjoy his humor

I do admire his creativity; I'll give him that much. However, I don't like how he markets variations on earlier effects on his DVDs. His methods are always the same which is fine when he's using them for himself, but not when he's releasing something to the community. What I do like is the simplicity in method; he knows that we're not out to fool magicians but to fool laymen. However sometimes his methods are weak.
I asked my guys at my magic shop this same question and they said that he's very good and very creative, but his older stuff was way better. I don't think he's that funny. He's gotten a chuckle out of me a few times.

Jay Sankey

here's what i think of Jay Sankey, super creative, super smart, funny and just an overall entertainer. However, the more i perform stuff put out by him, the more i see his limitations as a creator. With that being said, he's still one of the best magicians. I can't knock his style, because for anyone who wanted to mix comedy, magic, and edge to his/her performance, Jay Sankey is who you want to be.
