What To Do

Hey guys!!!!
This is my first forum post......... and, i just wanna know what to do at the level of magic I'm at. I'm not old, just 13...... and I've been into magic since I was a kid. The passion rekindled itself about 3-4 years ago. I guess I would call myself at the stage between beginner and intermediate. My main problem is small hands which really hinder me from doing a lot of the card sleights and flourishes that seem easy to everybody else. For example, a basic card palm looks more like the card palming my hand....... (maybe I'm exaggerating a little)..... but the point is, I need some help from you guys; what books 2 get, what dvds 2 get and such things. It's a tad difficult for me to get a mentor where I live, so I was wondering if you guys have any idea on what I should be doing now.

Thx,
magicboy1999

What are you looking forward to learn?
If you want to learn cardistry/flourishing get Genesis v1, it's the best source for learning basic cardistry moves.
The best books out there are Royal Road to Card Magic, Bobo, Stars of Magic... However take a look at this.
Welcome to magic again!

Here is a quick run down of some great books to invest in:

Bill Tarr's "Now You See It, Now You Don't"
This book is a great book for basic sleight of hand from cards to coins, and from billiard balls to cigarettes. It really does have the basics

Bobo's Modern Coin Magic
This is if you are interested in basic coin magic. It is dry and long, but it really does have everything you would need to know as a beginning and intermediate coin worker

Hugard & Braue "Royal Road to Card Magic"
This is a great place to start in cards. It has everything that you need to know and will let you exactly what you need to work on.

If you are interested in more card work, check out Jason England's FREE download on other books that you can check out here:

As far as other things pertaining to sleights and tricks, I would have to go with the Tarbell Course in Magic. It is eight books that really does cover the whole spectrum.

Last, Strong Magic by Darwin Ortiz. This book covers the psychology and presentation of magic. This will bring your tricks up some levels.

I know that I didn't recommend any DVD's or anything like that, mainly because I feel you can get more out of what I have put up. As far as having small hands, trust me that it isn't a worry, but you will get use to that with experience. I commend you on starting magic so early, it will be rewarding in the long run.

Well i would've given some advice on sources but i see RediSpades has covered it all. Well i would give some advice if you wanna go into flourishing. Just practice , there's nothing else you can do. When you see that everyone else can do flourishes so well , that's because they make it lok that way, If you hear andrei's podcast, you'll hear he says that it takes atleast 3-4 years to get good at cardistry.(And he has quite small hands too). If you wanna get started get andrei's genesis, practice it for months then get genesis v2 after that either get v3 (it should be out by then). Then move on to trilogy and the system , solo. And you should also get jerry cestowski's encyclopedia of playing card flourishes.

P.S A lot of people , maybe all of them can't keep a card in classic palm and expect it to look normal(it's not a coin). You just cover it by misdirection and timing, and yeah PRACTICE!.

EDIT: I'm 15..

Hey Welcome to the forums!

I'd recommend Marc Wilson's Course in Magic for you. Great book for anyone on any level. There's a lot of good magic in it.

There are some DVD's that I'd recommend. Actually Royal Road has a 4 disk DVD set that's pretty good. Crash Course 2 from E's not bad either. Don't get me wrong there is no replacing the wealth of knowledge found in books, but sometimes a DVD can be just as useful.

Also the Tarbell magic course, or Card College.

As for your hand size you just got to learn to work with it. I don't think your done growing yet at 13 so give it time.
