Would you choose Jason England to teach you how to do card sleights.

P.S. I mean no disrespect to Jason England He would be my first choice for a teacher.

in all honesty.... probably not. I have amazing respect for Jason and his work. he truly is one of the best at what he does. That said, he does seem rather focused and dedicated to his table work and gambling sleights and with who i am as a performer i dont know how much i would benefit from that. Im sure i could learn a great deal about that area of card work but it doesn't really fit me and where im at in magic right now. Now, should i ever need help with table magic, gambling sleights or the like... i would probably come back begging for him to show me a proper cop or palm or shift. Just my two cents. MUCH LOVE J-DAWG

If I wanted to learn and focus on Gambling sleights and possibly other table top card magic sure. But really, in life and in anything that is an entertainment, there are a ton of different ways to learn things. So I wouldn't want to just learn thing from one single person.

Well, if I had only one choice, probably not. But that is only because we have conflicting styles. But for him to be one of my teachers, absolutely. His ability to teach even the most complex sleights is high while others do lack in a few of those areas.

Now besides the common answer, which I believe is bs, I would take the opportunity in a heart beat. Sure I am an entertainer and performer and not a gambler sleight guy however if I was given the opportunity to be taught by Jason England I'd do it. Just because my art teacher taught me how to draw a circle one way doesn't mean I can't figure out my own way of accomplishing the same thing. If my art teacher taught me a flawless strip out riffle and center deal, it would be my choice whether to continue in the foot steps of the teacher or make what I was just taught my own.

Just because you have a conflicting style with someone else doesn't mean you can't learn something from them. Sure you may adopt certain traits and styles from your teacher but that doesn't mean you can't take what is being taught and make it your own. I can buy an old LandL Jay Sankey DvD and learn how to do the effects and techniques doesn't mean I have to be as sideways as Sankey in persona.

I think everyone can teach us something...and someone like Mr. England can teach you a lot about gambling and cards...but also a lot about other things...since he is very experienced in a lot of subjects, not only cards or gambling....

per example...my flamenco guitar teacher taught me more about life than music...

What is the point of this thread? You could make this exact same thread about any magic creator, teacher or figure.

Also, it just depends on what you would like to learn. When it comes to sleights I wouldn't trust anyone better than Jason, he has extensive knowledge behind the history and the techniques of each move. Plus he is a really strong critic, so I think he would encourage an incredible degree and rate of improvement for his students.

I am more of a close-up performer than a table worker, but that doesn't mean I would jump at the opportunity to learn something from him or anyone I respect in this art form.

Then you must not go to magic conventions. It wouldn't be benificial for you since you would not go and seek the opportunity to speak with someone one on one onto how to improve your art form.

lol what? You just asserted so much from such a limited amount of information.

Of course it would be beneficial.

doh....

I meant to say, "that doesn't mean I wouldn't jump at the opportunity to learn something..."

Wow, I was like, wtf is your problem? That was a pretty costly typo I just made there, haha.
