which I think they run like the Gestapo and the freedoms we enjoy here on these forums don't exist...

Took a little longer than I thought, but it's still as inevitable as the tides.

Still, this is a snappier conversation than what's going on over at the Magic Cafe. What a ripe bunch of losers.

Well then assuming that I'm ES just because I dislike the Cafe rabble is much like assuming I'm Mark Twain just because I'm American.

Well there's more to it than that. The torches and pitchforks sounds like something you've said before, he complains about gossip and drama like you do, he talks about orgies, you talk about wanking a lot, and he obviously types very well and seems to have a good understanding of the English language like you do. I didn't pull this out of my ass and no harm was really meant by asking.

While I commend ES on having good taste in rhetorical devices, I can't take credit for them.

To put it simply... my complaints about the Cafe are nothing new. I'm actually one of many who despise that place and point to it as a perfect example of everything wrong with magic today.

I haven't been to the Cafe much, but the times I've lurked have shown me the best thing I can do is not contribute. I got into magic to have fun, not become a jaded coot.

/off-topic rant

Fair enough, I apologize for the assumption.

I think we all can agree: It's sad that good grammar, spelling and typing is so rare that some think it's a unique, identifiable characteristic of a user.

Steerpike,

You make me laugh, but I have yet to assume you are Mark Twain.

Keep being jaded though. You'll get there.

It also wouldn't hurt you to use a metaphor or two about frogs.

I personally like the magic cafe.
It has a great used magic section where you can pick up magic products for cheap. (must have 50 posts)
You can usually find good information about products out there from reviews and comments.
And in general, you can get some help.

Sure there are a lot of tools there man, but more or less it's a good place. You just gotta find the good places to read.

On a side note,
I think subjects such as these need to be addressed in the public. People in the magic community are "fickle" about the names of effects and to a large percentage of the market, stuff like that means something. Guys in my club who are collectors, hobbyists, and performers, all have somewhat of a view that magic should properly be credited because that's the way it was for them back in the day and I respect that. Daniel doesn't want his name to be bashed in the same way it was because of that "butterfly" fold.

Just my thoughts.

If I want to feel superior to somebody, I come here.

Why should I register to the Cafe when I can get what I need as a lurker and not have to deal with the rabble?

Daniel doesn't want his name to be bashed in the same way it was because of that "butterfly" fold.

To be frank, I don't think the opinions of people like that matter.

Except those opinions do matter,
They're the ones who buy products, book lectures at IBM meetings, host conventions, etc...

Once you get 50+ posts in the cafe, you get access to the "ebay section" for magic, plus the inner room where some effects are discussed more in the open, not exposed. I've personally grown in my knowledge about magic through the cafe.

I also think it's full of tools who whine a lot. But yah just gotta weed 'em out a bit.

Well then I'm just speaking for myself because I came to a decision some time ago that I don't want or need the approval of the community at large.

Once you get 50+ posts in the cafe, you get access to the "ebay section" for magic,

Yippee-skippy, I get to spend even more of my money.

plus the inner room where some effects are discussed more in the open, not exposed.

I have that too. It's called a mentor.

Ouch steerpike.
But anyway guys, Don't you think we're going a little off topic here? The disguised E bashing suddenly became Magic Cafe Bashing.

Oh, and about Garcia making a "public" statement, I dont know about you guys, but I highly doubt any of this will make it into the general public.

In essence, I think the matter is pretty much settled. E holds the rights to distribute the DVD, (and I highly doubt that they'll not distribute it so what else can we do?) and Dannys just doing what he thinks is right and is informing the community that they are being mislead by the advertising.

Im not completley convinced that DG is airing out his laundry in a demeaning approach here. One user here said he's was a journalist then he should know the importance to outside sources recieving tid bits of info on wrong doers only help expose the problems instead of himbering them into a closet of colaborated lies so the next guy can get mud on his face. As far as the superiority response Steerpike that was uncalled for and only shows your true ambitions here and thats sad brother. Is it right for DG to allow the public to know the truth about something HE created and have the want to provide top notch magic to his loyal fans I dont think so so to DG thank you.
