Need good gambling routine...

Anyone have any suggestions on a good video that has some really good gambling routines? I already own Sal Picante's videos but I am looking to do something similar to the demo video for Past Midnight by Ben Earl I think. I want something with a nice long routine that is already mapped out. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. DVD's only please.

The godfathers of gambling routines are Darwin Ortiz, Martin Nash and James Swain, so have a look at their DVDs. I would also suggest the work of Jack Carpenter, but I don't think his material has made it onto DVD yet. Alternatively, you could go with your own suggestion and pick up Ben Earl's Past Midnight set.

I only have Benjamin Earl's DVD, but it is quite good...
I never liked his teaching methods, but you can pick everything up.
It is a great routine, and as said above, you can make your own from the moves he teaches you.

Take a look into Andrew Wimhurst, particularly his Card Artistry DVD. It's like a half hour long routine filled to the brim with gambling demos and such like, that you can stop pretty much anywhere you like.

Welcome to the Firm DVD has an incredible gambling routine. No seconds, bottoms, or centers are needed. I've fried my customers with this. Highly recommended!

Hey Dayton,

Depending on your ability and persona - you may enjoy Derek Dingles "Roll over aces" - also, Guy Hollingsworth has a poker deal demo educating on bottoms and middle deals - where the deck goes back in order after shown mixed - almost self working.

Ammar does Dingles Roll over aces very well. I think poker routines should have a strong ending - not just show control over cards.

Oh my God. That was awesome!

Do you know where I could learn this?

Darwin Ortiz is good but be prepared to put a lot of time and hard work into it. His Magic is intermediate but his Gambling stuff is pretty advanced.

Ben Earls Past Midnight is good, tho there are a few things he doesn't go over and just kind of expects you to recognize the sleight he used. But he does have a nice mind reading gambling effect.

Hey thanks guys for all the info. I think I am going to go with the Ben Earl video and the Andrew Wimhurst DVD. Then the AoA video by Paul Harris when it does finally get released, then that will be it for me as far as purchasing more card magic for a few years. Thanks again. If someone can think of anything else please feel free to put in your two cents.

I think I am going to go with the Ben Earl video and the Andrew Wimhurst DVD.

I DONT RECOMMEND ANY oF THEM FOR YOU.

Here is the idea:
Ben Erl's DVD is, effects-wise, bad compared to others ( one mental poker deal thats needs a full deck stack, for an effect that surely doesn't represent anything done at the table ). There are good ideas for known sleights, but thats it really. Simply, not a good start.

Wimhurst's DVD is excellent, but its advanced. I don't recommend it unless you know your way round deck ( knowledge of false dealing, stacking, table faro, and culling is assumed ).

The BEST gambling demo if you're starting out is the Marlo/Gardner Poker Deal. It allows you to demo pseudo-stacking and true bottom dealing. The thing is, it doesn't matter if you're bottoms are average because you are just demonstrating it.

I recommend Simon Aronson's version in his book the Aronson Approach. It will get you into mem. deck work too ( other chapters in the book ), and many excellent effects. Highly recommended.

Look into Card College vol.5, has many four ace effects as well as many other effects. The series, of course, are no brainer, one of best bang for buck you'll find.

@Morgician, if I recall correctly Guy's routine needs false shuffles and false dealing, no? :s

Actually Yeah I recommend Card College. Vol.2 has a really simple easy Poker demo in that pretty much anybody with basic card knowledge could easily learn within a few min. I think Vol.3 has one as well and so does 4 and 5. The good thing tho is that the demo's start out easy and kind of build up your skill. The one's in 4 use things like bottom and 2nd deals and a few false shuffles. But suffice to say by that time you'll have already used the sleights before so they should fairly easy to pull off and if you can't do the 2nd or bottom deals. The books pretty much say that you could substitute whatever sleight you wanted for the deals.

Ben Earls DVD is good. But like I said, it does require some knowledge on cards and the poker demo requires a stacked deck.

One book you could do poker demo's with is Juan Tamariz's book that teaches a lot of stacked deck effects..

Again thanks for the really good advice. Like i said before though, I am looking for some routines already mapped out on video. I have pretty good knowledge of false shuffles and cuts used for gambling routines and table work, but over the years I have not put a lot of time into practicing them. Card work on a table is deffinatley my weak spot. So, I just want something to work on at my house over the next year or so until I can get a solid gambling routine down.

Medifro - you are totally right, it does take some technique, I was referring to the full deck order part being practically self working, and perhaps in comparison to other gambling routines I have seen, a bit easier for what you get. Much easier than Roll Over Aces - anyhow, thank you for adding that.

Cheers.
