A Simple Escape to do in Drama

In about two weeks I will do a report on Harry Houdini for my drama class. Since he was the most theatric of magicians I thought he would be the best to do a report on. I already have down what I'm going to say, it takes up about a minute. We have to fill in five.

I want to do some sort of escape to pay homage to one of the greatest. I already know how to pick a set of handcuffs, and I own a set of hand and leg cuffs.

So basically I'm just trying to figure out ways to spice it up a little. Me simply making a lot of dramatic motions whilst picking the lock isn't quite enough.

I'm going to have someone come up and cuff me (of course I'll make the jokes, "I got these off the internet" and "I see you've done this before.") I'm still just looking for simple ideas for ways to spice it up.

To give a little more detail:

-I'll have four minutes for he escape alone (not much time)
-The Drama room is basically a small theater that seats about 35 students
-There is no way I can hang myself upside-down from the presidium arch:rolleyes:

maybe a couple of chains that, slightly, hinder your movement that look dangerous? Or maybe a small space to escape from? (I.E.: A claustraphobic cage or something)

Hmm I like the chain idea. I don't have a cage. Maybe I could do something with a cardboard box.

You can throw in a drawstring canvas bag. Cut a hole on the inside edge of the tube that the rope goes through, opposite from the hole where the two ends of the rope come out. That way you can pull the rope in as a helper ties you up tight, and when you're trying to get out you can loosen the rope and reach your hand through to get the knots.

OOOhh, I like the chains and rope idea. It's actually very easy to escape from chains. Especially if they are large. Worth adding to your repertoire. How long can you hold your breath for? I saw a guy use cellophane around his face to simulate an underwater escape. Obviously that is really really dangerous though, so have someone to poke a hole after a certain amount of time, and practice lots. I'm sure there is someone here with escape experience.

As well, some tense music is always good.

Well if you have leg and handcuffs already...use a chair and some rope. Tie / handcuff you up to the chair. Have yourself handcuffed police style from the back..put leg cuffs on...take a length of rope and loop it thru the chain of the handcuff, the chair and then dwn to your leg cuffs. Then take another set length of rope an strap the rest of your body tightly. Hope this helps...oh AND peg tennis ballz at u.

Probably not going to happen. One, I can't hold my breath very long, and my teacher/parent wouldn't allow it. I'll be using tense music and a large timer though.

Get people to peg tennis balls at you, as you escape.

That post made my day! I saw some really good escape artist do that one "One Way Out." A show on Discovery Channel. Unfortunately, my teacher probably wouldn't allow anything like that.

That's the best idea I've heard so far. This is probably what I'll do. Minus the tennis balls.

More ideas are appreciated guys.
