i'm opposed to sleight purism as well, but daniel garcia's straw penetration on symphony is a pretty damn good ungimmicked solid through solid.

Well I really didn't notice him. He wasn't even paying attention to the trick until everyone started to freak out, then he turned around, saw what was happening, and the grabbed it.

I can spot a heckler from a mile away. And none of the "original" audience members were one. I didn't predict that this kid was going to do that, mostly because he wasn't even watching.

Edit: I was paying attention to everyone's reactions and the card, while it was still changing. And it just got yanked. And it's not like it was a slow yank either.

Try this one don't perform in school. Kids are glutant for showing off in front of other kids especially bullies. But if you feel you need to perform in a place thats designed for learning then you take the chance of being made an example of. Just a thought.

True it is a place of learning, but don't be a hypocrite because I know that even if you never performed magic in school you talked during teachers lectures, or in the middle of class. If this was during school there's a high chance it was during a free break in class.

I have had a similar experience but luckily with just a Card to mouth, 20 something came up out of nowhere grabbed the pack and took the card out. Sometimes you get the raw end of the stick and end up with some complete jackasses doing stupid stuff.

They're not saying dont perform in school because its innapropriate or against the rules,they mean it as in school is a terrible place to perform.
Especially middle school and high school because its all just one big popularity contest and the age where people are most immature.
Teens do things in front of other teens that they wouldnt do outside the school

In this case, I don't think that it was fault of performing in school or not handling the heckler.

This was way to personal, I have been perfoming for some time now and I have never ever encountered a heckler that was this rude, and I have had the pleasure of performing magic for drunks, for boyfriends trying to impress their girlfirends with their "smartness" or just people that love to mess with your tricks and performances.

If this guy wasnt in the trick from the start and he suddenly jumps out into the middle and breaks your gimmick, Im pretty sure that he is pissed at you (and Im not talking about you being the center of attention.)

Im going to offer a piece of advice that nobody has given you here.

Go and talk with him, in a nice manner, and ask him why did he did those things, try to become friends with him (even if he is a jerk). Believe me, in the long run is worth the try.

I don't think its so much of being a hypocrite as it is making an observation but if you have anything else you would like to call me out on feel free to PM me. I meant no offense.

There is a way to do it better. If he tries to grab your things, just take them back and then talk to him later. Make him the hero if you will. I know most of you guys want to feel better about putting down a heckler or a tough cookie. But often times it can help if you get them on your side. Compromise. Talk to the guy later on, and tell him that you will teach him a few "easy" effects. Something with a key card or whatever. Tell them that if you do teach him that stuff, he has to promise not to try to be a jack ass. Then the guy can go perform whatever he wants some place else, while you get to enjoy the comfort of your own audience. It's a win/win situation.

If the guy wants to learn more, you can introduce him to some other books and stuff. Now he's happy that he can perform and the jealousy is gone. You're happy that he won't try to ruin the show for you. Everybody wins.

If you don't want to do that, You can simply take the high road and not perform at school, but perform when you are hanging out with your friends at their house or the mall or park or whatever.

These are things most people here need to consider. Putting somebody down isn't always the right thing to do, even if it makes you feel better for a few min. Like the old saying goes "Don't wrestle with a pig, because you just end up getting dirty and the pig likes it."

By the description of what happened, it does not sound like a typical heckler to me. It sounds like a potential bully. I've been out of high school for almost 10 years now, but I know what it's like to go through stupid crap like that. I am usually against violence, but from experience I can tell you that if he does something like that again to you, you know for a fact you are dealing with a bully. Unfortunately, the sure fire way to stop a bullies is through confrontation. I'm not saying throw the first punch, what i'm saying is just stick up for yourself through authoritative conversation. If he throws the first punch, then the game, my friend, is on!
