I'm very surprised HCE made the list. I would've thought that the deliberately prohibitive price would've led to few people actually being able to own it. So I won't be surprised if it doesn't make it any further. But by all accounts it kicks the crap outta everything else on that list -.- (the only one I don't know is iDeck)
iDeck is that iPod novelty deck routine, it's cool if you do lighthearted close up magic, it's a wicked routine, I don't think you'd find much use outta it tho Prae

I've heard of it vaguely, seen ads on the Café, that's about it.I wish I could be. The best I can do in that respect is talk to people who have invested in it.
Well to be honest, TA from Paul Harris is not a TRICK. It's what, a $300 9 DVD set LOADED with sick ass material? My Harbor Change is what, a $5.00 utility move? Clearly this shouldn't be up for discussion, but it is...
To be honest, making the the title "Trick of the Year" and then putting a 9 DVD set in the mix makes no sense. That's like saying "Best Movie of the Year" was Dexter...which is NOT a movie.
This would've been more interesting if there were subcategories like DVD of the year, instant download of the year or Gaff of the year, etc. But it wasn't...and now the end result is me having to look at posts with people saying stuff like "Mike Hankins?????? REALLYYY??!?!"
I am very honored to have even been considered for such an accolade. But in my opinion, TA should not be in the running at all. Unless you are picking a specific TRICK from one of the DVDs, because after all it IS the TRICK of the year.
I have been voting my ass off for Pressure because out of all the TRICKS, Pressure is just bad ass...
Though I am in complete shock that Tarantula was not put in the running...
Thanks for all who DID vote for me though. But just to be clear, I did not find a lump of coal for Christmas. That is just silly willy to say.

I was gonna say. I didn't think there were magicians present in Australia this year capable of HCE, save the Copperfield tour, and I would have died if somehow I missed a presentaion of it. The reviews of it are killer. Having the reviews Vigil does from such a range of magicians is quite scary in fact.
That's how iTricks has always done it though. Every year. And in past years DVDs or books with multiple tricks or discs on them haven't even won, so I definitely don't think that just by releasing a multi-trick book or disc DVD/DVD set you necessarily have any advantage. For example, last year Joshua Jay's fantastic $100 3 DVD set "Talk About Tricks" was overtaken by Rich Ferguson's $30 Tagged DVD.
It's not so much a "Trick of the Year" as "Magic Release of the Year." It's mis-titled, I agree, but I think the qualifications for what's being allowed into the contest are pretty straight forward.
Also, I too would like to see categories broken down in the future. I think Release of the Year (overall), Book of the Year, DVD of the Year, Download of the Year, Gaff/Gimmick of the Year, etc. would be fun.
I think it's amazing your $5 color change made it so far and held up against some pretty heavy hitters for so long. That's quite an accomplishment in itself. So congrats, Mike! The Harbor Change was definitely a huge success in the eyes of those who bought it.
