Just because they have a section on it, doesn't mean that's all they are about. You should check them out before judging. It seems you have to sign up anyway before you are able to view any of the sections..

Probably the worst forum idea I've seen in a loooooong time.....

Their bull**** little excuse of "magic is all about performance, so giving away secrets is fine!" is pathetic!

The thing about revealers is, they usually suck at magic. They have awful performance skills, and probably never look spectators in the eye. Because the so epicly fail at what they try to be good at, they have to reveal the secrets to tricks to make themselves feel "worthy" and bump up their low self-esteem.

Their About page, and my thoughts as I go along.

Secrets of Magic Forum was orignally created in 2005 around November, you can see how far we came by clicking here Old Secrets of Magic Forum

We are currently in version three of our site, the first version being the one you clicked on above, and the second being seen here SOMF V2. As you can tell, we have come a long way from the original SOMF.

**** I don't care about.

At the start it was all about the secrets, not focusing on helping, just figuring out how things were done. The views of SOMF have changed greatly since then, and in a positive way.

Oh ho ho, that remains to be scene.

Our views on how magic on the internet should be presented is simple. With free speech.

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE-BOOOOM!!

That was the sound of my expectations crashing in flames. There were no survivors.

In the older days, magicians couldn't go online and search for magic tricks, they had to go down to their local shop, or get help from another magician.

Yeah, leaving the house is such a ****ing headache! Thank god for the internet.

Sometimes they would get ripped off in the process.

This is different from today, how?

Now with the internet, magicians can do research on effects they are looking for before buying them.

But they usually don't.

That is one of the reasons we are here, to help other magicians. We want to be able to help out the magician that has no money to spend, doesn't have a magic shop close to them, and doesn't have anyone to learn from.

You point him in the direction of the local librar-oh hell! I can't say it with a straight face.

I can understand and sympathize with a guy who's down on his luck taking a little under the table, but you know... not exactly something you want to advertise.

Of course, we will get people who are just looking for the secret, but think to yourself for a moment. If these decided to go on google, searching for how a trick was done, don't you think they have a bit of an interest in magic? I sure do.

Aren't we the little idealist?

If they put in the effort to sign up on a forum, read through walls of text, just to figure out how something is done, they have a genuine interest in the art!

You give the rabble more credit than I do.

Now I am sure there are a lot of people who do not agree with our views, and think it is just flat out exposure, but that is ok, everyone is entitled to their opinion.

Translation: I'm going to stonewall any attempt at discussion of this issue, so **** you and your opinion with broken glass.

What I believe though, is that the secret doesn't really matter anymore. There is more to magic than just

That's not me creatively editing to look like a dick. The sentence just ends there. Upon seeing it, I realized it might actually be more damning than the sarcastic one-liner I was planning to use.

- We have a solid community full of helpful magicians, professionals and amateurs alike.

Believe that when I see it.

- Growing membership everyday!
- The best forum around and an interesting magic blog!

The best? Ooh, someone had two scoops of ego in their cereal this morning.

- Our own video upload service!

Which at this point is like saying your site has a domain name.

- Monthly Newsletter
- Fun forum features, like a shop and arcade!
- Real time shoutbox!

Those are strange things to get so overly excited about. Also, an arcade? The hell? If you were hoping to get me to sign up to your forums to satisfy my own morbid curiosity as to what a forum arcade entails, then you may yet succeed.

- Extensive help on everything relating to magic!
- Knowledge.

Again, might be more damning than my own comments.

I definently understand not having enough money to buy all the effects
but I think revealing things is ok to a point
but everything after the basics should be off limits
thats just my opinion

I second that

maybe the link should be removed for exposure.
i actually signed up to see what is there, exposure and what not.
some stuff there is nice. like some diagrams of ideas people have but there is also exposure, like pictures and tutorials.
so if the link was removed it would be good for everyone here.
