Yep, I certainly agree with you. Magic and flourishing definitely cheered me up or calmed me down. It was during my review for the Nursing Licensure Examination last October 2009. When the date of my board examinations approached faster, I became more and more nervous and anxious. During those times, I always carried my Smoke DnD, and when I get some spare time, I would do some flourishes, be it in the review center, in an eatery, or even in my dorm, and my anxiety towards the board exam was contained.I calmed down enough to stay focused and concentrate on my review.

Performing magic for other people cheers me up. :D Brightening their day brightens my day. (Does that make sense??) For example, I did French Kiss at school at lunch and I wasn't really happy that day, not sad but just like a zombie, so the performance wasn't the best (to me at least). And their reaction put a smile on my face, and I felt better the rest of the day. And I see myself as the next Aaron Williams, because it's hard for me to compare myself to another magician.

Once you get into a habit of practicing, it can be very calming. Oftentimes I find people asking me "what's that riffling noise" when talking on the phone - and I have to say "sorry, I'm playing with cards." It's out of habit and helps me think. It's rare to see Chris Kenner without a deck in his hand at all times.

With regard to performing for people - magic provides a natural high. It's a feeling unlike any other when you've practiced something over and over and then get to see people freak out watching it. It's attention, it's energy, and it gets your adrenaline going. There is nothing like it.

First of all, thanks for singling me out and dissing me in an uncalled for manner. I didn't appreciate that at all. Maybe you're trying to get me back for saying honestly that your video was bad for that contest? That was real mature and respectful as well. Please, no personal attacks to members here. I don't want to sound mean here, but especially me. I, nor anyone else deserves it.

Going back to the original post, I fully agree with JB. I do that all the time when I'm on Skype with people other than magicians or if I'm talking on the phone. It's a habit, I can't break it. I was having a music jam session with one of my brother's friends today and I brought a deck of cards unknowingly and began to flourish with them while doing so. I caught myself and put them away (after i did a couple of tricks of course :)). There are also other things besides magic that can get you happy. Find those and branch out from magic just a bit and explore what you have out there while still doing magic. You can't ALWAYS stick to one thing 24/7.

I think about this at times. Whether or not I will be the future of magic, because a lot of those people you mentioned aren't that much older than myself. Then I am constantly reminded that I haven't made that choice whether or not I want to take magic to a level that some of those artists have. Granted, I want to be a professional when I finally do go to college, but is it truly what I want after college? It is one of those choices that I know I will make later on down the road, but I guess I will just have to wait and see when I get there. Maybe I will be like Justin Credible, and when I do start to do it professionally, I will see that I have a real chance at going big. Only time will tell =D

Though, during those down days, it is always helping out others that helps me get through everything. And magic is a great way to induce positive emotions in others. It is only when we forget ourselves that we can be the happiest. And magic is a perfect conduit for that =)

Hmm, Casey, I kind have been feeling that you have have been abusing your forum admin privs a bit lately. Regarding this thread, it wasn't that big of a personal attack. It was more of a playful gesture that he made. In addition, I am not 100% sure it was you who did it, but your thread on "performing for college students" has been deleted? Because I mentioned that your constant praise of Calen was sounding borderline stalker / fanboy and someone agreed with me?

It is one thing to close / delete a thread that gets out of hand, but to close/ delete one because it singles you out a bit is an abuse of power. Again, I do not know if this was you, but you really need to not let these admin privs go to your head.

I actually do disagree with you.....Carrying cards everywhere is also a gimmicky thing to do....

I am pretty sure you live to disagree with what everyone says, and I am still waiting on a video of your "Elite Prestidigitation" so you can prove me wrong on multiple accounts, but I don't think it is going to happen =P

As far as Casey, the kid still has a lot to learn. But the difference is, that he is trying. I will have to say, with his hammer fist coming down on the many petty arguments that have been springing up too often lately, the posts have gotten a lot better. I don't filter through as much trash in these forums that I used to.

The call of abuse of power comes all to readily to those who don't have it. We don't see the effort he puts into it and all the stuff that he has to do that we will never have to do. There are circumstances for this one that are not my place to divulge that make me understand where Casey is coming from. The best thing we can do is be supportive and know that Theory11 will make sure everything goes well. Be positive and smile =)

As far as magic, yes he does. And he is quite good at it. If you don't beleive me check out The Magic Session sometime.

PS- If you do feel that an administrator or what not is abusing their powers, please do not post it here on the forums. Just take it to the proper people (ie the other moderators, JB, or such). This prevents a lot of arguments that could be easily avoided.

Casey has MANY videos of magic on his YouTube account. I have yet to see one from you. You're the last person who needs to be asking if he even does magic, trust me. Same for a lot to learn, nobody's even seen you.

Nobody's seen me either, but I plan to keep it that way. And if you think he's abusing his power, maybe it'd be a tad bit wise to not joke about him on the forums. Some people have more serious things to think about, and I know Casey has other problems on his hands. And FYI, he only deleted a thread, banned a few spambots, and asked you to not joke about him again. He is allowed the right to be a member of a forum without being insulted, and he has the means to prevent you from doing so openly again.

^Got your back, Casey. That was kind of hypocritic or whatever the word is, but eh.
