Hey everyone, here is my performance of a magic trick that is not only amazing, but also educational! I performed this in front of my physics class today and the reactions that I got were insane, after, a couple of people even took turns guessing the method :)
I realize that it is very difficult to hear because of the ambient noise so I apologize. But this is what I said in the middle "Do you know why the brass weight is difficult to catch? Because the force of gravity acting on the weight is 9.8 m/sec, so now I will use a little bit of magic to reduce the force of gravity to less than 1m/sec just by a snap of my fingers". Basically the challenge for the spectator is to try to catch the weight with the same hand before it falls to the table.
Anyways, feedback are greatly appreciated!

Thanks! Yes I always love posting live performances because I feel that they are a lot more fun and exciting to watch. I have a lot of live performances on my youtube channel as well, especially of effects that are popular but rarely seen perform anywhere else except in someone's bedroom.

Haha, physics student. I've never though to use it for magic, it was always my favourite application of it though, it just looks like real magic. I did buy some 'weights' to try it with, but they turned out to be not strong enough. Did you make that tube, or can you buy it with the 'weights' as a set? If I were you I'd get a thick walled copper pipe, should work better than Aluminium :P

Excellent effect Pete! A unique presentation, I like it. If I'm correct in guessing your method, I would suggest to clean up your off hand earlier, because no one's attention is there, and why take the unnecessary risk?

So you pretty much made the spectator fail and you succeed? Big no no... Turn the tables around. Make her do the "magic gesture", put the ball in and catch the ball. I don't know the method, or if what I said is even possible. But if it is, do it, if not, drop the trick. You can see on her face that she didn't like the fact she couldn't catch the ball, she didn't even try hard enough the second time around. Avoid that.

I noticed that too, I think it would work best if you do it to yourself, try and catch it at normal speed, make the gesture, give it to her, she can drop it in herself and then it floats down slowly and she can catch it.
She didn't seem that interested.

This is part of a set called "Newton's Nightmare". I got it on 4physics.com for around $15 and works like a charm:) One advantage of using this tube is that the spectators are able to see the weight slowly travels down the tube through the holes. I guess you could drill holes through a copper pipe but I'm not good at using those machines :D

I usually clean up my "dirty" hand at the very end while the spectator is dropping the brass down the tube and realize that when they do it, the weight doesn't slow down. In the case of this video, I don't have to do that because she didn't ask to try it out for herself after the magic took place.

Or even better, a silver pipe, if you can afford it :P You said you performed it in front of your physics class, surely they must know how it works then?

I'm good with the pipe I'm using because I feel no need to get another one since the one I'm using works perfectly but thanks for your suggestion! They have no idea how it works because we haven't learned about this law yet.
