A few days ago I submited this effect to The Wire but it was rejected.

But in my opinion they didn't aceppt my project because I'm new at the community. I think that maybe if I would submit another great effect before this, and it was published, I'm sure that Giro would also accepted. Because Rise by Michael James or Key Flip by Dominic Witt are similar creations than mine, and they are published.

Really, from my point of view Giro is a great effect, considering it is free. Futhermore, the trailer and the tutorial videos are very nice. The videos have good quality and modern music. I think that I fulfill all requirements and they should have given me the opportunity, no more.

Description of Giro:

Giro is a single card move, it's a very visual flick that can be performed on the fly or on the table.

As you can see, this move is a one hand card shot.

In my opinion Giro is very visual and easy to do, and if you practice and dominate this move you can do a lot of things. Because this isn’t only a flourish, is something more.
For example, you can incorporate this in your magic, because if you have controled the spectator card on the top, you can shot the card using Giro.
Another utility of Giro, and the reason to create this move, is that you can deal the cards very easy. You can shot the card where you want. How? You only need to dominate this move and have a little bit of aim.

The instructional video is only 5 minutes and is taught by Telmo Trenado, from two different points of view angle and with clear verbal explanation.

What do you think about it?

We've never met before, but after reading this... I kind of want to slap you. I'm guessing the reason they didn't accept this is specifically because there are already so many similar flourishes out on the market. Hell, Darryl has been marketing a card spin almost identical to that for years. You say you've made a free tutorial already. In that case, what does Theory 11 have to gain by putting it on the Wire? In fact, upon reflection, I'm reasonably sure this exact flourish has already been marketed somewhere.

As for the trailer being nice, while it is better than a lot of the things I've seen lately, it's still not nearly as good as you think it is and I can explain why in one word: framing. Don't get me wrong, gold star for actually showing your face, but your hands and the cards kept leaving the frame, and beyond that it was just repetitive shots of the flourish at various levels of slow motion.

Also, why is modern music so important? I don't even do magic anymore, but I'm willing to bet that if you gave me a week, I could choreograph for another magician a good flourish and magic routine set to Solsbury Hill by Peter Gabriel, Once in a Lifetime by Talking Heads, or Locomotive Breath by Jethro Tull.

I suggest you get used to rejection. If you have to make a thread like this when you get turned down by the Wire for trying to give away a flourish, how are you going to handle a potential client saying, "We're not interested right now?" The big bold letters at the end of the post tell me that you're looking for people like me to back you up. Well I'm not going to do that. Step up your game and then we'll talk.

Thank you mate.

I can't comment on why you were rejected, but consider a couple of tips:

1. The move is very similar to a few things that are already out there, such as "Vertical Spin" - published by De'vo but the motions of which date back farther, the Hotshot Cut by Daryl, and others. Each differs a bit in technique, but they all accomplish very similar effects (either a horizontal or vertical card spin). It can be tough to stand out in that crowd.
2. For the majority of your performances, your hand went out of frame when it was firing off the card. This deprives us of being able to see the move actually happen. Make sure you are perfectly visible when performing the move.

I wish you luck!

Best,
Vince

It also happens to be a move I've "independently" "discovered". It's understandable that they didn't accept it. It's a fun move. But not the most original nor as groundbreaking as you make it sound.

Oh, thanks to all! I opended this thread because the message of The Wire Team rejecting my effect don't specify anything to me, they only gave me general information that I knew. Nothing concrete, and I was confused...

But that's life, unfortunately. Not everything, especially in "show business" or art, can't be sugar coated for you. Most of the time all you get is a simple "No." You pick yourself up, drive on, and come back stronger. There's not enough time to ask 'why?' Because while you're asking why you got rejected, there's someone else out there taking all those open windows that you've just left open, to get their chance at success. Enjoy messing around with cards, learning different moves, be creative. Work Hard. You'll get there.

I disagree with this a bit. You should always ask 'Why?' That's how you learn. "Why was this rejected, so I don't make that mistake again?" will help you get fewer rejections.

I believe that the only real difference between someone who's of average intelligence and a 'genius' is that a genius is compelled to continue asking Why.

That's the idea! I opened this thread because the message of The Wire team rejecting my project don't help me anything... They gave me only general information, nothing concrete about my effect. So, I didn't know what I did wrong :S

Asking why can be perfectly fine and all... but you're not always going to get an answer. And that's normal. Don't get so hung up on that and move on.

That is not logical. If you fail an exam, you ask to teacher what do you did wrong, you ask for an explanation. After, with the answer of the teacher, you prepare better the next exam.

This is the same. They rejected my effect, ok, but they didn't give me any specific reason. Two times they did the same, they sent me general information. That doesn't help me.

The way I see it is... The point of your teacher is to teach. Theory11 is running a business. two completely different things. This is not the same thing. Life can not always be fed to you on a silver spoon. Life sucks most of the time and it's your job to find the answers. Cerca Trova. Seek and ye shall find.

Life does not work that way. No one owes you anything, least of all an answer. Get used to it.

Then stop thinking like a wannabe and start thinking like an entrepreneur. You attempted to put this on the Wire, marketing a solution to a need that you imagined people had. It was vanity. This is not a company that's into publishing other people's vanity projects.

Stop complaining. Stop telling us how you think things should be. Go out and do something productive. Asking for help along the way is one thing. But don't trick yourself into thinking the world or people owe you anything.
